lol we have an M&I, But i have never had an account there.. I dont think they have a BOA in Wisconsin.. Thats what one of my friends was saying anyway.. cuz he used to live in Arizona or something and then moved up here and went to find a BOA to withdraw money and uhoh.. no BOA lol. Im not much help, I just go to a local bank, thats pretty much all we have around here.
I would suggest a credit union. They are far better then banks. Credits Unions are owned by its members and non profit organizations and banks are owned by stock holders. So, that being said credit unions have lower rates and higher interests earned. I actually work for a credit union in FL.
Krushing and FEOT
Yup USAA ***** lol. I had auto insurance with them, and they were supposed to cover everything. Well hubby had his car broken into and vandalized and they refused to cover it, said it wasn't in the insurance plan, which was a crock. We also got screwed numerous times with our checking account. Money would disappear right and left and they couldnt explain to me why or how. We had 457 bucks taken out of our account for a flight to japan.....it was never recovered.
FEOT- yes you can keep USAA once you have them, retired, discharged it doesnt matter. Once you have them you can keep them, but I don't see who would lol. Your children also have the resources to use USAA once they are old enough to have an account.
After much deliberation I think I have decided not to go to BOA...I think I am going to try Compass...lol THIS IS HARD!
My friend told me that Bank of America is buying Merrill Lynch who is filing bankrupcy and just bought Countrywide...whose going down the drain too. Do you think that would make a big difference?
Oh, I've used Bank of America in the past and they're very nice! Very helpful. When I was a teenager, that's who I banked with. I accidently went over my account and they were SO NICE and refunded the overdraft charges.
I don't feel comfy saying who I bank with but I will say this--- DO NOT use CHASE! They are a major ripoff. They ripped off my MIL and me. This was a couple years ago, so maybe they've changed. They yelled at my MIL on the phone and told her she was a liar and it was HER fault that a mistake was made and that they weren't responsible, etc., etc. What had happened was Chase did TWO transactions, instead of one. How that happened, I don't know. But they were pretty nasty with my MIL.
With me, they kept giving me bogus charges. Their customer service is questionable. I've also heard that Wells Fargo is a BAD idea, too!
My car loan is through wachovia too but I would have to look into their locations, there's one by my work but I rarely go to the bank at work. I just want something real close to home. I think everyone has their horror stories and love stories about certain banks. There aren't very many local banks and I don't know if I could trust being with such a small bank. I noticed that a lot of the good banks gets into trouble and then get bought by the stupid banks...I just really want to stay away from Wells and Chase lol. I think I will give BOA a shot and if I don't like him then I will go somewhere else...
I can't be of any help here because DH and I bank with a local bank...I like staying local =)
Wachovia is pretty good. That's what I have both checking and savings!!
Well, I have both personal and business accounts and both are at seperate banks. My personal account is through Regions bank which was originally Amsouth. I have been with them for 10 years and love them. I did go through a buyout with them where the county I lived in was bought out by another bank and they were aweful so I moved my account back to Amsouth / Regions and have been happy ever since.
But they did not have very good options for business banking so, my business account is through Legends Bank.
My husband had an account with BOA and hated it. He said that he always had to wait forever to get service in the bank and that the tellers at the branches he frequented were quite rude. He now has his account at First Federal Bank.
Yes, DH and I keep seperate checking accounts. Believe me it is for both of our sanity, we tried joint account the first year we were married and it was a mess. We both pay the bills but from our own accounts.
After looking at the rates and fees between M&I and BOA...I think BOA wins...and I just want that Keep the Change lol...so I think it will be BOA YAY!!!!!!! :) I just hope they don't screw us over.
BTS1022: USAA screwed my husband and I too. But they had a great interest rate though! One reason I hated to leave them, but was happy once I was gone. Our house is financed through Wells Fargo and we can't stand them either.
Jame0223: As for our checking and savings, we use a local credit union for that.
M & I?
Nope, never heard of it.. Good luck with your decision.. The nice thing is, you can always switch..
Thats what I really like about BOA, the whole savings plan with rounding up. I like that idea and it would make it much easier to me to keep track of my money.. Since I just bought a car I need to get my checking acct in order. My wamu account is still attached to my mom's since I have had it for a few years, but I need to go solo. So I need to get another account and order checks. Chase is the bank we use at work and I used to go in all the time to make deposits and sometimes...I tell ya the tellers don't know what they're doing. Half the time they had to search around for our PO BOX checks and then they took forever counting the money...It was always annoying to go in there. I don't like Wells Fargo, I used to have an account there. My grandma was attached to my moms account and my mom was over me and my brother as well. My grandma was supposed to get off of it and was always bad with her account...always overdrafting and what not. One time she overdrafted over $500 and they took the money from my brother's account. He was 17! Then the lady at the counter had the nerve to put the blame on my mom. They are not legally allowed to transfer money like that and then they said that my mom was responsible. So my mom closed our accounts that day.
I am leaning toward Bank of America more and more. I am going today after work to open an account. I am just hoping I choose the right one.
Anyone ever dealt with M&I? They just opened one around the corner from my house and that would be super convenient but noone knows much about them...
When i was in Cali i used Washingtom Mutual...I have been using Alaska USA since i been up here AK (6 years). If you were here i would recommend this bank, its the best bank ever. Theres no fees, and if you have money in savings and for some reason you go over on your checking they automatically transfer money from savings to checking to cover any transactions, they dont charge you for that. I also pay bills through online checking.
I just actually opened a new account with Washington Mutual (WAMU). Hubby and i are starting a business and well since we are moving to Cali we decided to go with them...I know Citibank might buy them out but what bank isnt having financial issues now days.
We also have an account with Citibank with we use for child support and just have the account open with a couple of hundred dollars, you never know when we might need to use Citibank for any loan or help.
BTS1022- I thought once you had an account with USAA, you can stay with them even after you get out even if its not because you are retiring. I dont have an account with them but thought about it. We have had our a car insurance with them for 6 years now and i wouldnt want to change i think we get a good deal.
I use BOA (bank of america) and always have.. I have never had a problem..
They have the "keep the change" program too.. You round up all your debit card purchases and they roll the difference into your savings. I like it!
Well I have used Wells and HATE them so def would not recomend them.... i am currently using Bank of America for my checking and savings and have been for about 7 years, I love them.... Never have any issues and they are always very helpful!
I use chase bank lol. And my car is financed through Wells Fargo. So far Chase has been okay with us, but I cannot stand wells fargo. We used USAA for a while, but that bank is only open to military servicemen, or retiree's. BUT they screwed us over more than once.
well i LOVE washington mutual. i have a savings and checking account with them but yeah, they are in trouble. chase is supposed to be bailing them out. i have a savings and checking account with bank of america. they are okay, but they will hit you with a lot of fees. i have one of my cars through wachovia, and they seem to be really good. i used to have chase for many years and my maitnance man at my apt found my checks and stole them. he ran up 1800$ on my account. 2 years later chase is still "investigating it" with their fraud dept. i currently have an atty and am taking them to court to get my money back.
