Arching is also a sign of reflux.  What are some of Jaxson's other symptoms besides arching and fussiness?

yes, he's burping after each feeding. I think he is constipated and in pain. We gave him gripe water and he pooped finally but is still fussy.. :(

We are going to call the Dr. On Monday. Thank you so much ladies! He may have colic?I will keep you all posted! Thanks again!

I have had the same problem since my son was about 1 week old. I have swiched formulas more times than I can count and gave gas drops every feeding. My son recently had an episode that I can only describe as a seizer. I brought him in and had an EEG done and that came back normal...I found out that babys with GERD can have similiar episodes that can look the same, arching the back and going stiff. Basicly he was in pain. Since he has been put on meds for GERD he is a completly diffrent baby. No more throwing up (no more than what is normal for babys) And he hasnt arched his back in pain since either. I dont know if your baby has GERD or other stomach problems, maybe gas, but its worth a trip to see your peds doctor. Also a few girls on here mentioned colic and that could very well be too. I hope you get answeres soon I know how hard it can be on both you and baby:)

It does sound like gas. My baby was very, very gassy for the first 2 months. It was exhausting, and hard to watch him struggle. He was breastfed so I had to cut out dairy, etc... from my diet. It still didnt really make a difference.... he just got less gassy with time. The only thing that helped at bedtime was co-sleeping.... so if thats an option for you, you may try it. Also doing the "bicycle circles" helps sometimes to relieve gas.
Also, babies hit a growth spurt around 2 weeks which could explain the insatiable appetite. 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months.... those are major spurt times. Babies can have more than that, and those are just approximate times. During growth spurts babies are fussy, moody, HUNGRY, and sleep less. See what happens in the next few days. And if all else fails, consult your doc. Best of luck - I know how frustrating and confusing babies are! My son is always changing it up on us! :-P

I will go out on a limb here and ask this.....has he been pooping atleast twice a day?  It could be constipation!!    When ever my kids got slightly constipated, they arched their backs and screamed almost bloody murder, ok maybe not really blood murder.  But a baby version of it.  What I did was give them a bath, with a wash clothe on their tummy, constantly getting it wet, heat helps loosen up things, then dry and diaper them and put a shirt on.  I then take their legs and do little bicycle circles, and take both legs and push lightly with slight force into the tummy and hold for 3 seconds, and do that all over.  Never failed to get my kids to poop!

I just wanted to throw that in there, cause it could be numerous things.  But try everything and ASK YOUR PEDIATRICIAN!  They will know best!  =)

my baby  is 2 weeks old and keeps me up all night as well. i recently tried mylicon for gas this seems to help a bit. I also use a CD with  soothing lullabies this seems to help as well. I just think its tough in the the beginning until they get on a normal sleeping pattern. These babies are def unpredictable, u never know if its going to be a tough night or an easy one. also burping seems to help.
good luck to the both of us!

sounds like colic. I dont know whether there is other way to help colic other than switching formula to a different one - the one that is formulated for colicky baby or maybe to one that is hypoallergenic. My baby develop colic as a result to allergic reaction to cow's protein. He cried for 2 days in a row when he was 1 and half month old. I know something was wrong.Without consulting doctor, because i couldnt wait for another hour as he cries his heart out, i switched him to Isomil. The crying settled down within 2 days and he is once a happy baby again. He is still on Isomil and he is now a 5 months old.

Seems to  me like he's in some sort of pain like too much gas in his belly.  I get fussy when I am gassy too because it hurts (pregnancy issue?!).
Anyway, you should try different positions to burp him like sitting him up, holding him up with a firm hand on his belly and then patting his back.  Or sling him over your shoulder to burp him, basically so he has something firm against his belly to push the air up.
Try the colic drops, and lay him on his back and push his knees up, try to move that air.

I don't know what else, but as he cries more he gets more air in his belly so swaddle him or hold him as much as you need to.  Its not like he's going to get spoiled this early, he needs his mama.

It sounds like colic. Julian was also colicy and it started right around the same time. Actually I take that back thats what his old ped told me. The new ped said he has had reflux from day one! It really could be either. I would bring it up to your ped! Good Luck

Are you making sure to burp him a lot during/after a feeding?  Some babies need to be burped after every ounce or so.  Feeding every 3 hours is completely normal.  In fact the longest stretch he would be ok to go would be about 4 hours.  Are you making sure to wake him if he doesn't during the night to feed?

It is also common for babies not to want to go to sleep at night.  They have days/nights swapped.  It can take a couple months to get on a "normal" sleep pattern.  Make sure to let him still take his regular naps during the day.  I think a lot of parents will try and keep them awake more during the day in order for them to sleep at night, but this can backfire.  It does get easier/better!  What you describe for a 2 week old sounds pretty normal!  Take turns with your dh getting up at night to feed, if you are bottle feeding.

Are you feeding him formula?  If so, It could be colics. Babies are unpredictable, I had a wonderful lactation experience with my daughter and now, with my son, its was pretty much great until about 3 weeks, when my nipples cracked, I ve been getting a lot of pain and on top of things, Ive got a clogged duct.
It also seem that my baby is allergic to something, because his nose gets relly stuffed at night, wich makes him real fuzzy and as you can imagine, mommy is not able to sleep...Ohhh, the joys of motherhood hahaha!
Hang in there Laura, you'll be fine!

The arching back sounds like he might be over stimulated.  Have you tried swaddling?  He might fuss while you are doing it and he might fuss for a couple minutes at first but keep him swaddled and see if that helps.

You can try putting him on his side on your lap (while swaddled), like where your legs meet when you sit with them together...and rocking your legs side to side.  Keep your knees together and your feet slightly apart...I hope this makes sense...

You can try some louder shushing, or a white noise...he's used to it from the womb and it is a comforting sound...

If you have a swing, you can put him in it and don't turn it on just yet, jiggle it side to side and see if he gets a bit calmer then turn the swing on the fastest speed.

I just watched a video at my birthing class called the happiest baby on the block and it was a pediatrician who had these 5 S's for calming a baby.  It was AMAZING.  See if you can find it on youtube or google or something.

Good luck!!!!!
