My nipples were flat when I started breastfeeding my son (2 and a half years ago) they arent any more but I never used a shield. They tried to get me to use one but he wouldn't latch to it.I would try without again
its probably your let down, my daughter still chokes when it comes so quickly sometimes, they get usd to it.. if you use a nipple sheild it may be hard to stop using one.. once youre boobs are so full your nipples flatten express some and then try putting baby to breast.
I have flat nipples too...my midwife had me form them with my fingers before id go to latch my son on...it was a bit more work but it worked. Also it could be hes getting a lot of milj at once and cant swallow fast enough...for that you can take a finger and put some pressure just on the outsede of the areola...not so close to babes mouth to break the seal, but it may help slow down the flow. Esp helps if your boobs are really full at the beginning of a feeding. Good luck :)
Ok ill try it out and see what happens! Thanks
I had flat nipples too. I didnt use the sheild. We struggled a little at first but it got easier.
They have me the shield in the hospital because my nipples are sort of flat and the lactation consultant said that I would have better luck with the shield so I haven't tried to get him to latch on without it in about five days. I will try later and see what happens
Try latching on without the shield
Hmm my son had that issue. It was the placement of my nipple in his mouth which lead to a bad latch also. My advice is your nipple should touch there nose when you start so the bottom on mouth is almost an inch bellow/besidd nipple. Then drop you nipple in last. It gets your nipple pointing a little up at the very back of their mouth. Im hoping that does the trick for you.
After he takes a few ***** try taking him off the nipple let him swallow then put him back on
Yes we use a nipple shield
Are you getting a good latch?
