breastfeeding

I had my son on the 14th, and have been trying to breastfeed him. He is finally starting to latch on, but doesnt stay on for long. Today while he was on for his short little time, i noticed the breast he wasnt on is getting kinda firm/hard. Is thag normal?

Try different positions too! You can google it but for the first couple weeks I had to hold my breast to feed him. It was the only way he'd latch on and now he's doing great! Your breast is hard because it's engoraged, don't give up on latching on though, it takes time! You and baby have to learn :) you can pump and bottle feed if you feel he's not getting enough just don't forget to latch him at least once or twice a day so he doesn't forget how to latch on

Do you have a pump? Try to pump the milk to keep them from getting clogged up..and if he just has trouble latching then maybe you could give him your breast milk from a bottle so he still gets all the good stuff!

I think thats just your milk getting backed up. Try alternating breast and talk to the lactation consultants at your hospital.
