prenatal vitamins "stopping me up"

My prenatal vitamins "stop me up" if you understand.. lol (constipated) so I stop taking them for a couple days every month to allow myself to go. Is that okay? Or is it bad for the baby??

I had this problem & then I discovered peppermint tea. It aids digestion. Has to be all natural though (anything with caffeine is not), American Pregnancy Association & my doctor have a-okayed it and I have a BM every day now. One cup a day.

Prenatals can cause you to become constipated. If you have to stop them for a few days its not going to hurt you or the baby. I would recommend you switch to a regular multivitamin that doesn't have the high iron content that prenatals have so that you don't become depleted of vitamins during your break. You might also see if your doc will switch you to prenatal that is a little lower in iron.

I've tried everything and nothing works unless I stop taking my vitamins. My doctor said its because of the amount of iron in them or something. When I stop taking them 3-4 days I go normally.

No prenatals are probably not to blame, constipation is normal in pregnancy, try eating prunes, cucumbers help also, you can drink smooth move tea also
