Advice... Baby boy

So today I had an appointment with my dr and she was explaining our options to circumsize our little boy when he arrives. (we are most deffinatly getting it done 100%) She said we have two options 1: being in the hospital after he's born and 2: being two or so weeks later at the pediatricians office. I don't know which we should choose. It's $275 to get it done and she says the hospital charges an additional fee on top of that. I am just really nervous about waiting 2 weeks. Won't that make it more painful for my little man? What option would you ladies choose?? The money doesn't matter in y decision I just can't decide which is better!!

My boyfriend wants to wait the two weeks after so we can come up with the money. My dr said the hospital charges almost double to do it but we aren't short on money so I don't see why he would use it as a determining factor. I am just so worried that waiting will make him feel more uncomfortable then if we got it done right away ya kbow? But I guess 2 weeks isn't that long

I didnt get my first sons done nd wont get this ones either...it is a personal choice, iv only met 2 ppl in my life that have theirs cir. And they are the same as every other guy in my family that is not cir.....they'v never gotten an infection down there because they keep it cleaned and taken care of...in my opinion if it wasnt ment to be there then it wouldnt be so i just wont touch it...if later he doesnt want it then thats his decision not mine...

I waited with my third son because the hospital charged waaaaay to much to have it done there. The same dr would have done it that did but the hospital also charges a fee on top of that because its done at their facility. It also gave is time to come up with the cash as well. And honestly I didn't see much of a difference in how if affected him. Actually he slept thru most of the procedure.

I know we are 100% getting it done its just a matter of drs or hospital. The plus side of waiting two weeks after is it gives me time to save up money to do it but I feel like the hospital doing it would be less stressful to me. I Personallu have heard so many horror stories about not getting it don't that that isn't even an option! He will be getting this done. We just have to decide where we want to do it. Agh it's a hard decision. Why did you wait with your third son?

I just don't understand how people can say it horribly painful to get it done later in life, and it's not painful for a newborn? I just think it's silly. Anyways, I'm getting out of this question because clearly everyone who's here is getting it done/has gotten it done and refuse to see my side. It's your choice I am just personally horrified.

It's definitely a personal choice. I won't bash one side or the other. Personally all 3 of my boys have been circimsized. Their dad is as well. It's not a cosmetic surgery, but one of personal choice. And for us the right choice. Infection is possible BOTH ways. Snipped or un snipped, has nothing to do with lax parenting or lack of teaching a child hygiene. More infections in un snipped pre teens/teens/men are from their own sheet laziness, which results in painful infections and later adult circumsiaion which from what I understand is horribly painful. Most young children don't get infections because the folks clean it. Anyway my older 2 boys (13 and 10) were done while in the hospital I believe day #2 and my 3rd was done afterwards on day 8 I believe. I was not in the room or present for any of them. It's not allowed or something I would want to witness. But I did not notice a difference in how my youngest son acted as compared to his older brothers who had theirs done on day 2. He was not traumatized in anyway. Didnt seem to affect him really.

I had my sons done at his one week appt with his doctor. He slept through the whole thing and it never bothered him once we got home. I think it also depends on the type of procedure that is used. His doctor used a plastabel and it did not require any extra care or cleaning. I chose not to be in the room, however I was given the option to stay with him. Everything has healed perfectly and I will never regret the decision we made to get it done.

He won't get an infection if you leave it on so long as you teach him how to clean it the only reason boys who have it on get infections is because they have slack mothers/fathers who don't teach their children the importance of hygiene. My fiancé doesn't have his done, not do either of my nephews and none have ever had an infection down there. I really think, the only reason people get it done is for cosmetic reasons.

1st off, you won't be in the room when they do it, no matter if its the day after he's born or 2 weeks after. :) so don't let that be a factor..
I believe the risk of infection is higher if you don't have him circumcised than if you do..and he won't remember the pain he goes through, even if you do it when he's 2 weeks old, but, say he gets an infection at 6 years old or 10 years old or something and needs to have it done then, he WILL remember how much it hurts then, that is for sure Lol..

My son had it done the day after he was born in the hospital. It was the best decision for us. He recovered quickly and we could get him home and get him adjusted. I think waiting would have presented a whole other Arty of problems, I say if you're going to do it get it out of they way. But, it's up to you of course :)

But infections after not getting it done can be prevented easily so long as they know how to clean it properly.

I don't think it's all that common so long as you keep it clean. But with any open wound there is a risk of infection.

Is infection common? I've heard horror stories from family friends that did not get it done and ended up getting excruciating painful infections later in life. I guess either way you risk infection

But I'm having a girl so it doesn't really matter.

Just because you can keep it clean without removing it and I just couldn't handle handing my baby over to get part of his bit chopped off. I would rather let him make the choice himself because if later in life he wants it he can't grow it back. I would rather not risk the infection

Why would you not get it done? I want to hear your reasoning. We are getting it don't for sure but I wanna hear the reasoning for not.

Oh my gosh I just talked to my boyfriend (baby's father) and he says he wants to wait the two weeks but it seems like everyone thinks the hospital is better has anyone waited the two weeks? Is it different in the hospital compared to the doctors office?

I'm doing it at the hospital b/c 2 weeks later it should be close to being 100% healed. And I just don't want to put it off lol.

I personally am so glad my son was done right in the hospital, it gets it done and out of the way, 2 weeks in you're just going to be wanting to be adjusting to his schedule as far as sleep.. adding a stresser 2 weeks in when you're already on lack of sleep will be hard. I would rather do it and get it out of the way, so when it's done it's done and you can relax and enjoy him, not have anxiety for two weeks waiting for it.
