Pacifiers

How do you ladies feel about them? Will you be using one for your baby or have you ever with your other children? Any pros and cons that you know of?

My son is almost 3 months and still uses one, I want to have him off by 6 or 9 months but he LOVES it and cries bloody murder when he doesn't have it. I definitely don't want him using it when he's 1 but not to sure how to get him off of it. I honestly regret ever giving it to him.

I this it depends on the baby, some settle better than others! My first daughter had one, my second didn't like them and was fine without one and my third we chose not to but she's so content we don't think she needs one!

Louloulally I firmly believe whatever best soothes and settles your baby to just do it.

Also may I add it has now been proven to reduce cot death greatly as suckling regulates the baby's breathing. Call me paranoid but anything to even reduce such awful thing is worth the moaning and crying when you eventually do take the dummy off the baby.

@xnatlauz that is exactly the way i see it and besides that i have 3 children of who 2 had dummies the other one didn't- she now ***** her fingers-which is far worse because i can't take it off her! Lol. I would never want to listen or to watch my child crying and sad because i refused them a dummy when its there instinct to suckle. Obviously there comes a time when they have to be taken away, i had a friend who still allowed her 3 year old ( and he looked older) to have one, that's just very unnecessary!

I will be using 1 I see no problem with it & he will be off of it by 1 I'm taking it. I agree they do help with sids & whining jus in general I'll replace it with something else

I will be letting my little girl have one.  They help prevent SIDS and SIDS is something that horrifies me.  My niece had her's until she was like 2 years old and her teeth are just fine.. I know it can mess up teeth with some.  Also, a lot of people that breastfeed choose not to give their babies passies because they think it can cause nipple confusion.. not true, there is no proven fact that they cause nipple confusion.  Babies know that they don't get food from passies because they can suck and suck and still feel hungry, but when they get the breast they know they are getting food and feel full.

What we plan for our babies rarely happens. At 3 months I'd be happy using one. I'd say as you adjust to cerael or baby food bring about the switch. Trust your instinct. My children have always lost interest around 7 months. I have nothing negative to say. It's like a mother saying her child won't watch television... Don't let others opinions alter your own.

I gave my son his because he didnt have the sucking down and he would just choke on his food so it helped him

I am definitely using one. As he gets older, I'll transition him to use it only at bed time, and eventually completely off. :)

I don't get how some of you find giving them a dummy terrible?? The baby's natural instinct is to suck, they're born and immediately know how to do this so why is it such a huge deal having something to soothe them? My baby has one, sometimes he wants it other times he does not . Either way the offer for him to have it is there regardless of how hard it will be to take it off him I would like him to have one.

It's best to have them off by 6 months and bottle by 9 months. That's what I did with my son and what I plan on doing with this one. It worked out great

i have heard that giveing them a nuk will help prevent sids when they are sleeping if they take it because of the sucking motion.  we have used them and with both my boys we did till about 18 months.

I never used one I didn't want my daughter getting used to it but a pro to using a pacifier is it reduces the chance of sids! So if you wanna use it go ahead(:

My first used my breast as a pacifier and I refuse to allow thaw to happen again. I tried a pacifier with her but she refused. I am hoping my son will take to one though. I do not want another one using me as a pacifier it was no fun.

Aww!!. I never used them before with.my 3 kids but I do plan to use it with this coming bby becasue I super struggle with my kids at night and when I was brestfeeding them well my last 2 they would bite my nipple even thoe they were supposebly as leep already wouldn't let me go and it hurted so much they were 1 yr already so I was so ready to give them the bottle because I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't do nuthng because they wanted to be just stuck on it... And I do wanna use one this time... Maybe by time ur bby will forget about it one day... My sis-law's son was like 3 and he wouldn't let it to till one day their dog got it with his mouth and she washed it and boiled it and gave it to him again and he didn't wanted anymore lol... Thats was the one way he let it go..:-D:-D..

Dont feel bad using it on ur baby. Everyone is different & some babies probably do need it for either comfort ir so theyre not "lazy eaters" where they eat every half hr or so but basically nothing at a time.
