Infections

I hope this is not a dumb question but it's something I was curious about. I know there's herpes 1 and herpes 2 but are there different stains of the virus and once infected can you catch a differnt herpes strain? I know this sounds crazy but can you catch a double dose?

No, you cannot get infected twice with HSV2 because once you have it, your body as well as the virus becomes quite resistant against HSV infections. Yes, HSV can increase the chances for you to get HIV so you would do well to stay safe and use protection, not only for your partner's safety but for yours as well.

Well, this is certainly not a stupid question at all. You have come to the right place for medical advice however, this is the std community and although herpes fall into this category, this is not the right place to get a complete answer you seek. You can post this in the Herpes community but I will do my best to help you. Yes, there are variations of herpes if we were discussing the herpes virus family however if this is in regards to sexual exposures, once you have either herpes one or two, you come quite resistant against other hsv 1 or 2 exposures.
