I was diagnosed with chlamydia at the beginning of April. I showed symptoms within a a week of exposure and was positive for chlamydia (no gon. Infection). I also had BV. I took oral clyndamycin for the BV and 1g of azythromycin for the chlamydia infection. Within a week after treatment, chlamydia symptoms subsided.
Fast forward three weeks, I went for a confirmation of cure test. Keep in mind that I had sex around 30 hours prior to the test. Vaginal swabs were taken and results came back negative.
Three days later, I experienced UTI symptoms. This time, at my regular doctor, not my OBGYN (and now one full week after the sex I had before my confirmation of cure test), confirmed I had a UTI, but because I told him about the previous chlamydia infection, he wanted to be sure and took swabs for good measure. The swab showed positive for a chlamydial infection.
My question is, is this new infection likely from the sexual intercourse I had approximately 30 hours before my confirmation of cure test? I would assume since that test came back negative, it would just be negative because it was too early to detect?? I read that it can be detected 1-5 days, so I am confused on how I could've received a negative test result and then positive (I hadn't had intercourse in between). I know that the antibiotic couldn't have failed, because I did receive that one negative result, three weeks after first treatment. Also, does taking the azythromycin twice now in 6 weeks, make it less effective in curing this second diagnosis? Also, I wasn't experiencing symptoms with the second positive chlamydia result- Im guessing because it was so early, but now, four days after treatment (1g of az.), I feel I am having symptoms. The yellow discharge, discomfort with urine. Why would this be? I know symptoms can linger BUT I never had symptoms the second time around and now I've taken the medication, so I'm confused as to why I would be feeling this.
