Swollen throat

I don't know if this is the correct forum to post this question but every once in a while I experience some sort of swollen feeling in my throat. I have felt it a few times recently but before this I had not really felt since last year. I have performed oral sex on my boyfriend of three years from time to time...we don't do it that much though. I was just wondering if this is a major concern or warning sign of something major. Thanks.

Burping has nothing to do with anything. We can not diagnosis anything here, if you want you can go get tested. But I see no reason for it. if you are concerned with a swollen throat then see a Dr and he/she might be able to help you out.

Does the fact that I burp quite a lot when I experience the swollenness/lump in throat feeling help to diagnose it at all? I tend to burp a lot which almost gives a sense of relief.

I didn't say it couldn't be.  I said that gonorrhea doesn't usually give you symptoms orally.

Syphilis would give you a sore in your mouth.

Those are the only STDs you have to be concerned with when giving oral sex.

I don't know what you have - only a doctor can tell you that.

I'm sorry but I'm just really concerned can you give me any information about oral stds that you know...there is definitely no reason why a swollen throat could be a symptom of an oral std?

Yes, that's what I'm saying.

Okay so you're saying that a swollen throat is not really a symptom of either of those STD's?

I haven't mentioned any particular std.

The ones you could get from giving oral sex are syphilis (which would cause a sore) and gonorrhea, which doesn't usually give symptoms in the throat.

The only way you'll know if you have anything is to test.  If you and your bf haven't ever tested, now is a good time.

Oh okay. Well I read on a website that the symptoms can come and go. How do you know about this particular STD?

I said continuous - as in not stopping, being there all the time.

I'm really scared. What do you mean it would be contagious? How am I supposed to know whether or not what I have is conagious?

Nope, its not.  If it were an std, it would be continuous.  My guess is its allergies or irritation from things in the air or dry air or something.  See your doctor if it concerns you.
