Dear MedHelp community,
this is my first entry. I need an expert advice regarding the above mentioned question on a suspected Chlamydia trachomatis infection of my gut. In 2012, I was first diagnosed with Chlamydia tr. after having unprotected sex with my new girlfriend. This urinary tract infection was "cured" with 1g of Azithromycin. However, I (the stupid naive 20 year old guy I was) forgot about the good old ping-pong effect. Since my girlfriend wasn't treated accordingly with the same antibiotics, I believe that I caught Chlamydia tr. again a couple of weeks later. We broke up after half a year. During that time I went to five different urologists to get tested for Chlamydia tr., as I still had these typical symptoms (stinging pain in urethra, while urinating and testicular pain). The different urologists performed tests via urine and urethral swabs. All were negative. After a while I started to develop typical symptoms for a Chlamydia tr. infection in my gut. I must have spread it from my penis to the anus while washing genital area in the shower.
During the following years, the symptoms (kind of like the ones of irritable bowel syndrome / itching anus and a bit of discharge) recurred from time to time, but I mostly ignored it as I was desperate to run from doctor to doctor and get negative diagnoses. Two weeks ago, the symptoms started to get worse and I thought that I have to get checked again for Chlamydia trachomatis (or other STDs). This time I will not shy away and I will insist that the doctor tests EVERYTHING that could be relevant!
I look forward to reading your answers, inputs and feedback to my forum entry.
Best,
