cold sore question

does a cold sore have to drain fully in order to heal? i got a cold sore 4 days ago and it started draining last night and the swelling went down substantially. this morning a scab has begun to form however there is still some swelling. does this mean it wont heal? does it need to fully drain? should i re open the scab in order to try and make it drain fully?
