too much condylox or herpes

HI, about 1 1/2 weeks ago, I noticed some genital warts on my anus.  I went to my GP and she said that they where warts and gave me condylox gel but told me not to use too much.

I went home and started putting the gel on the warts.  It didnt' appear to be doing anything so I did apply more.  They were quite small. After two days, they were gone.  On the 2nd day, I noticed a red bump on my genitals that I also applied condylox to.   I had some pain during the first three days of application.   On the 4th day ( the dya of rest ), I started to get more and more pain accompanied by a bad smell from that area.

On the 5th day, I called the doctor becuase the area had become very red and smelled bad, and was leaking fluid.   She said that she couldn't tell what was going on.

She had me sit in a stitz bath 3 times a day and apply bactrim / desitin ( baby rash cream ) to the affected area.  I also took cipro ( on my own ) for fears of getting an infection.  She said taht the small pimple on scrotum looked herpetic but she wasn't sure.

I haven't had unprotected sex at all this year.  Only touching etc.

After two days of using the sitz / desitin / antibiotics, my anus region is settling down but the area where I applied the condylox appears to have blistered some but isn't painful.   The sore on the scrotum that I applied the gel to is also getting smaller.  The sore was red like a pimple with a white center which I punctured.

My question is it possible that this was all caused by condylox / bacterial infection?  Or could it have been herpes that I spread from the sore to teh anus?

I didn't experience lymph node swelling, fever or any other symptoms.

I haven't used it personally.  I've worked in the field for a long time.

If they come back, aldara might be an option, but it can be just as irritating as condylox.  Freezing is a good option, since you seem to have had a reaction to the condylox.  If you have an std clinic near you, they can freeze them too.

Yea, I think that I got a bad reaction or an infection from all the open skin.  I read online that if you experience a bad odor, extreme burning or blistering to call your doctor.  At any rate, it's all settling down now.

So I take it that you have used condylox before?  I am going to try getting them freezed off - if they come back.

How about aldera?

Hi there -

Right now, I would go with the condylox.  You just might be having a reaction to it, or you have applied too much.

It doesn't sound like you applied to much though.  Most of the time, you are supposed to apply it two times daily for 3 days, then stop for 4 days, etc.   If you did it more that that, or applied it to skin that didn't have a wart on it, then you might have used it too much.

I don't know if you have herpes.  For one, herpes and genital warts don't look anything alike, so your doctor should be able to tell the difference between them.  Herpes can appear in many variations, but none of them will look like a wart.

Did your doctor culture the sore that she thought might be herpes?  She should have, if you had it for less than 48 hours when you saw her.

This doesn't apply so much here, but if you have a herpes sore on your penis, you are already infected anally.  A genital herpes infection, regardless if its type 1 or 2, infects the entire anogenital area, so you can't spread it from your penis to your genitals.  Herpes infects nerve groups, and the nerve group that genital herpes infects is from your waist down.  You are only infectious from the anogenital area, and most likely would only get outbreaks in that area, but its possible to get them anywhere from the waist down.
