A few days ago I was asked by my neighbour to cut his toenails. My neighbour is an elderly individual with limited mobility, dementia and a history of basal cell carcinoma. The toe nails were incredibly long with the big toe nail curling over the second toe. Once I had cut the big toe nail down, I noticed a suspicious looking lesion on the top of the toe. He says that he has not noticed it before, it is raised, blueish pinkish in colour, about 4mm x 5mm and about 2mm in depth, it does not have irregular borders. It does not appear to have bled, or have any crusty/flaky skin around it. My neighbour is housebound and has not been out since the basal cell carcinoma was removed from his lip 2-3 years ago.
After reading into the subject, and getting confused about ABCDE and CUBED, I am now really concerned for him. He is reluctant to contact his GP, what should I do? And do you think it is serious enough for me to push the subject with him?
