hard red lump on knee

Hello,

First i want to say, thanks in advance for any help you can give me on this subject...

So about 4-years ago i noticed this red bump on my knee... at first it thought it may be a wart so i used one of those calicilic acid band-aid thingies, but it did not seem to work... so i ended up wearing it for about three times the recommended time and it had absolutely no effect whatsoever on the bump... so i began to think that it may be something else...

so what does it look like... well, it is red in color, not blood red but definitely a few shades redder than my skin color, it is about 5mm or 1/4 inch across... raised from the skin, hard and very smooth... if i had to say, i would describe it as on-top of the skin as apposed to under... if there is a way to upload a picture, please let me know how...

so anyway, it has been exactly like that for the last 4-years or so, i don't think it has changed noticeably in that time...

thanks so much for your help on identifying the skin anomaly!

It could be a dermatofibroma or it could be a keloid scar from a previous bite or injury. There are other things it could be (a mole for instance) but it doesn't sound like skin cancer if that's what you're worried about. Look at some pictures of benign skin lesions on-line and see if you can see something similar.

Take care.

Nodular melanoma is rare and a non-pigmented one ie red rather than brown is even more rare. They also change and fairly quickly and you say yours has been the same for 4 years so very unlikely to be nodular melanoma. If you are worried show a doctor next time you're in.

Take care.

Also, one more thing... how can you tell the difference between dermatifibroma and modular melanoma?

thanks

Pum,

Thanks for your reply... i looked up some pictures of "dermatifibroma"... and some look very similar to my lesion... i think that's what it may be!

So question number 2... how do i get rid of it... calicilic acid does not work... do you know of any other home remedy, besides shearing it off with a razor?

thanks for your time!
