Excessive Sleeping

Hi
My Daughter(3 yrs) about a month ago went to selep on a thursday night at 9.pm.  and did not wake up until Saturday at 6a.m unless shaken and yelling her name would wake up for small amount of time. Maybe 10 to 15 minutes.  Slept through blood work and catscan.  which all came back neg. Toxology Negative. When was awake criend of belly pain. CT scan was done of head and abdom. and was neg, Spinal tap for leuk . and menangitis. Neg. when she would fall asleep she would stare and then fall right back asleep. After test where done she would fall back to sleep with in minutes. Had an EEG and only thing that should was that the left posterer lobe is functioning slower than the right. However neurologist does not feel that this is a contributing factor and has no answers as to what happend. Since then she takes about a 2 to 3 hour nap every morning and still goes to bed at a early time...

Hi taz50, how are you and how is your daughter doing? It sounds strange but such long sleep hours are seen in few children inspite of being healthy and no disorders. Have you asked for a sleep test by the way? Has sleep specialist evaluated her any time? Is she active in daytime and with normal behavior? It is better to get her evaluated at a sleep center. Give her an early dinner and follow a routine time to put her to sleep. She needs to be more physically active. Take care and update on the progress.

Sounds like her doctors have been pretty attentive. Time will tell if it was an isolated incident. I did see a show once about children who go into deep sleeps that last long periods of time. Although it is not within expectations, these kids were not harmed from the extensive sleeps. Maybe if it happens again you can ask her doctor if she could have a sleep disorder.
