Hi pennst8r, how are you doing? Relax! Your concern is common, as with any other person having the first time experience of using CPAP. How severe is your sleep apnea? You may require a couple of days to weeks to get yourself adjusted with the new machine. You need to consider the benefits of using the CPAP machine rather than think negatively. It will, sure be of helpful in putting you to sleep. If you are allergic to it or feel it is ill fitting, you can always speak with your sleep specialist to seek an alternate or a replacement option. Once you get use to its use then you will probably feel great. Please post your thoughts and take care.
Thanks for your response. I am still waiting for my machine. Was told this week I will be getting a bipap. Guessing I'll need the full face mask as my sinuses are awful. I'm claustrophobic - that's mostly why I'm worried about the mask. When I did the titration part of the study I had a really hard time with just the nose mask. I hope I will not be too big a baby about my mouth and nose both being covered, lol. I am looking forward to getting some real sleep though -- really need it.

It took me a while to get my cpap treatment to smooth out. Had to find a mask that worked for me and go back to get my pressure adjusted. Once things settled down, I can't even lay down to sleep without my machine because I know sleep apnea means I stop breathing. My night at the study with the machine was horrible. Now it's all just routine.
I have slept with a CPAP for a little over a year. Getting used to it depends on the individual i'm sure. I still have problems here and there and changed from just a nasal to full face because of sinuses. I have other sleeping problems but I do believe I feel better overall.
Good Luck
Cheryl
