Wake up seeing things???

I have, on SEVERAL occasions, woke up about an hour or so after I dose off (at night) to sleep and I think I see things.  Example:  I woke up one time swearing that there was a spider on the wall.  I woke up my husband and he said there was nothing there.  I feel like I'm totally awake, eyes open, speaking clearly, everything.  I just don't understand why this happens.  Sometimes when it begins, I tell him that it's not like before and I tell him that this time I really do see something.  So...I do realize what I'm doing at the time.  Then I go right back to sleep with no problems.  It's funny when it occurs because it's become a regular thing but I know this can't be normal.  Can someone please explain why this occurs?

I'm 63, I have always had vivid dreams that make no sense. I have never walked in my sleep. I have always been able to distinguish between dreams and reality. I have never had trouble sleeping. Over the last two months I have been waking from dreams and seeing images some orange most black no distinct form, cloudy. The images have nothing to do with the dream I'm waking from. They seem evil, I know I'm awake and they they only go away when I  swat at them. Anyone my age having the same experience?

I had something similar once, I woke up at about 1 in the morning to find a creepy kid outside my bedroom door, I could see him quite clearly and he was smiling at me, I felt intimidated and when I fully regained my senses he disappeared, I tried to go back to sleep but I could still feel his presence even though I couldn't see him it was a bit frightening but it only happened once and I knew I was awake because I pinched myself and felt pain so I defenately wasn't asleep.

This also happens to me. It seems to happen when I'm pregnant. And it's always a spider!!! The very first time I remember thinking it was coming down from the ceiling onto me and I literally fell out of bed 7 months pregnant. Now I'm pregnant again and it just happened.... I don't know what's causing it , it only happens when I wake up from a nap extremely still tired ... also it would happen when my baby was newborn I would wake up and hallucinate that's he was seizing and his eyes going back and forth...... it's very scary but it's definitely a hallucination. Maybe lack of sleep maybe malnutrition bc I'm also sick alot ....but seeing spiders crawling around waking up *****!!!! CREEPY CRAWLERS !!! I wish I new what it was so it would stop :(

Okay so you said it only happens when you're pregnant and you said it happens because of malnutrition, try eating more of the right nutrients, if that doesn't work, try to ignore it, close your eyes and try to tough it out after all it only happens when you're pregnant so wait until the baby is born and it'll probably stop.

Thought that too at first.  But I really don't think so.  I do not get much REM sleep because of severe sleep apnea.  Also, if I do have a dream it is always a nightmare, I have significant PTSD.  I do wake up from them still asleep but know it.

Try going for a sleep study to get help with your sleep apnea and as for the nightmares they're probably the cause of your sleep apnea, go to a sleep study and maybe it can be fixed

p.s. I'm very sorry you have PTSD, no wonder you're always having nightmares.

Wow, I did not expect to see other people with this.  It just starting happening to me.  I swear I feel something on me and see either a very large shield shaped beetle, or a huge spider, and they are moving.  So like a few others I hurt myself jumping up and slapping the bug away.  I turned on all the lights and searched for the critter for hours.  Finally, I thought it must have been a dream.  But than it happened again, and I'm sure I was awake.  Still, I searched and searched.  Tore the bed apart and searched every corner.  I finally figured it's not real so the next time I was woke up I did not panic and tried to look clearly.  I swear it ran across my bed and up the wall.  When I turned on the lights, nothing there.  The next time, I tried closing one eye but I still saw it.  So I opened it and closed the other and still saw it exactly the same.  So, it seems unlikely it's actually my eyes.  But with both eyes closed, I did not see it either.  I'm constantly on my iPad many many hours a day, so I wonder if it could be eye strain of some kind?  Darn crazy and weird.

Okay you did really well when you closed your eyes and ignored it but about the iPad, I would say cut back on the amour of hours you spend on the iPad, I know it's hard and I know it's tempting to be on it all the time but just try to not be on the iPad so much okay.
