Wake up seeing things???

I have, on SEVERAL occasions, woke up about an hour or so after I dose off (at night) to sleep and I think I see things.  Example:  I woke up one time swearing that there was a spider on the wall.  I woke up my husband and he said there was nothing there.  I feel like I'm totally awake, eyes open, speaking clearly, everything.  I just don't understand why this happens.  Sometimes when it begins, I tell him that it's not like before and I tell him that this time I really do see something.  So...I do realize what I'm doing at the time.  Then I go right back to sleep with no problems.  It's funny when it occurs because it's become a regular thing but I know this can't be normal.  Can someone please explain why this occurs?

I am so happy to know i am not alone on this.  For several years I kept seeing spiders on the wall, on my pillow, or hanging from the ceiling.  As time passed, the color seemed to change on them and by then I knew they were not real, so i've learned to control my emotion towards it.  Nevetheless, now i have to sleep with the light on to help me assimilate what I see.  I've gone through a sleep test and I've been told nothing is wrong with my sleep cycle, i am not tired when I work unless i'm sleep deprived which is normal, but I can never tell when a hallucination will happwn. Lately i'm seeing the room i am in change, either the textures of the windows, or the texture of the walls.  I too have seen shadows of people standing next to me, but that is seldom. Sometimes the images linger, i am able to move and look around so i stay calm and either close my eyes to stop watching things, or keep blinking and keep staring more in awe of knowing im seeing something that is not there until things go back to normal.  Its been helpful to rationalize the images while they are live, like being aware you are in a dream and taking control of it. It makes it more manageable.

i am 14 now and when i was little cant remember what age i use to have really bad nightmares but wake up before anything really bad happened. when i woke up it was still really dark and i would always be sweating then i would see things that was from my nightmare, like once i had a bad dream about cats (i didnt like them when i was little cause my grandfathers cat would always scratch me when i visited him) and i woke up looking at my fairy lights in the dark and just seeing these cats jumping on them and i had memorized the pattern they did it in so when i turned on my light and saw that the fairy lights were still moving in that pattern i got worried and stared at it till the morning, i had many other experiences like that when i was little but its all stopped now. can you tell me what was happening to me when i was  little please
