Did your iron tests include a ferritin level to check storage iron? And if so, where did your result fall in the range of normal? A ferritin level can be in the normal range, but if it is in the lower end of that range, it may not be sufficient for those prone to these types of disorders.
I read a study that said intensive exercise can reduce symptoms. I don't know what defines intensive. Some say taking magnesium and calcium helps. As far as meds, dopamine agonists are sometimes prescribed. If you find it necessary to go that route, start at a low dose and stay at each level a while and give it a chance to work before increasing the dose. Be aware of potential side effects, especially at higher doses. Based on my experience, it can be a good idea to have someone close to you know that these meds can cause addictive behaviors so they can watch for signs of trouble, as by that point, you might not be able to be objective.
I'm not trying to scare you off from taking the meds. I take them, because I would never sleep without them. Just wish someone had warned me up front.
