Sleeping Problems I really want advice URGENTLY

Can someone give me insight to my sleepness?
I am an 18 year old male.I asked something similar on Yahoo and got no response so how about this I have been trying to sleep last night but involuntarily gulp at certain points when I'm about to fall asleep or feel an uncomfortable warmth throughout my body waking me up.I am currently on a course of meds for a virus 2 days in now slept like a baby for 8-9 hours straight the day before but last night I only got 2 hours deep sleep(pretty sure it was deep sleep cause I remember nothing about it and I felt slightly rested) interspursed with period of light sleep where I could hear everything around me but I dream or visualize weird stuff so I must have slept right? Can anyone tell me anything about these involuntary gulps or why I am so alert is it my virus cause my throat still feels clogged(no sore throat) but my chest has cleared up considerably. Also should I revisit my doc he told me when the virus clears I'll sleep normal not that I don't trust him its just not sleeping isn't normal for me I usually get 8-10 hours and I want to ensure I don't have any problem or if he could prescribe something for me I have been taking Panadol Multisymptom Drowsy which leaves my body in tatters but my brain activity doesn't even decrease much sure my head feels tired but I don't get satisfying sleep or maybe I don't sleep. Please someone at least give me an opinion on my situation whether you think its sounded like deep sleep or that I even that I slept at all just for reinsurance.(One more thing the day before I slept 8-9 hours I had 2 days of restless sleep similar to what I just described)

You said 128 pounds and 6' 3", I'd say you don't need to lose weight.  Sorry if I repeat, I am 6' 5" and weight 230 pounds and hope to bet down to 225, 220 better, but not lower than that.

I'd recommend to listen and follow you mom's advice, indeed medications take time.  But the loss of sleep is not normal, something is wrong.

Look this up on the web too, here are a few tips from my mind:
1) sleep regular times
2) have a dark (unless you need a low night light) comfortable environment - that means cooling and humidification this time of the year in the NE/SE
3) get lots of bright light during the day, wake periods, even consider a "daylight" type lamp to sit by at night even is watching TV or on the Net.
4) get exercise, but not too much
5) no eating or drinking other than water at least 3 hours before bedtime
6) no caffeine - none, not even in the morning.
7) try to relax, no competitive games or fright films or novels etc. before bedtime.

There's more the above is just what comes to mind.  Think about it you may find one or more of the point above are not part of your day.

Good luck, and see a doctor if you have no improvement soon.

Thanks for responding it means alot but I really don't know what seems to be the problem the virus seems almost clear according to the web the major side effects of my medication are nausea, vomiting and so on-anyways my weight is 128 pounds and I am 6 foot 3 inches I realised the gulping is dry throat caused by the meds however the sleepless is the real problem I mean last night I slept 12 HOURS seriously but tonight I am catching my literal tail to fall asleep went to bed 10pm and its 3 am and I am still up. I'll try exercise maybe losing a few pounds may help me sleep I'll check my doc to find out the problem I really wanted help so thank you again I really appreciate it I wanted to go to the doc but my mum who is a nurse by the way suggested that I don't bother him until the meds run their course which was 1 week I am almost 100% and have 1 more day of meds to take but still have sleep issue sigh;(___thanks again

I think you first have to determine if you are suffering from mediation side effects - look them up, talk to your pharmacist and/or doctor.

Next consider how you feel when you experience the gulping.  Are you short of breath?  Your age makes it rather unlikely you have obstructive sleep apnea, but that could be the problem.  How is you body weight?  If you are much over weight (obese) that can contribute to early OSA.

Don't comfort yourself if your are "just overweight" ... the medical profession considers a person obese long before they look real bad and that is because that level of weight can do a lot of damage even if it is just a "little" overweight in the mind of the individual.  I suffer from mild OSA, amd old, and am overweight.  Lost 15 pounds and I am now much better, even less OSA probems.
