Do you also have an over salivating tongue or wake up with a white raised huge bump at the back of your tongue? I was told its keratin from acid reflux when I sleep. I have horrible salivating bc of this! I took medication after my diagnosis of GERD. I changed my diet. Nothing helps the salivating go away!!!!

Hello,
Such feeling of something struck in the throat is called globus hystericus. Globus hystericus is a subjective sensation where people feel a lump in the throat. The most common cause is gastro esophageal reflux disease - GERD. Other than that it can be due to post nasal discharge as well which can be caused by rhinitis, sinusitis, or laryngopharyngeal acid reflux. It can be enhanced or sometimes even caused by allergies.


Diagnosis is by fibroptic laryngoscopy. Fiberoptic laryngoscopy also helps confirm the GERD diagnosis.

GERD is treated by antacids, bland diet, small evening meals and elevation of the head of the bed.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
