Hi again. Yes, I should have put more history in, sorry.
Three years ago I couldn't stop sleeping 14 hours a day and the doctors discovers a small nodule on the left side of my thyroid. They did a radiated ultra-sound and found it was hot. Did a biopsy and found no cancer.
They started me on Armour and I got that drugged reaction. I was on that for 6 months. I couldn't stand that feeling any longer and they switched me to a synthetic that had a combination of T-3/T-4 and I got the same reaction. I think it was sythoid. I was on that for six months. Finally, they switched me to Cytomel and within 3 days I didn't have that drugged feeling any longer and got my energy back. I was finally able to go back to teaching after 2 years off. I was thrilled!
My doctor put me on 50 mcgs a day and then eventually got me up to 75 mcgs a day to try and get the nodule to stop producing and possibly shrink. Suppression therapy. It shrank a tiny bit, but not enough. So I went back down to 50mcgs a day. Any less and I couldn't function at work. Just didn't have enough energy and was taking naps every day on my lunch break. I was on the 75 mcg's for about a year and on the 50 mcgs for the last year. When I tried to get pregnant I lowered the dose to 37 mcgs a day (one and a half pills per day) But I was so tired on that dosage I could barely function. So I put getting pregnant on hold and went back up to 50 mcgs a day.
My labs show low T-4 and T-3 is right at 2.0.
I have not been on birth control lately. 20 years ago.
I did try fertility drugs twice with no luck. Oral clomid. I'm not taking those any more.
Every time I'd try and get pregnant I'd start taking the pre-natals and got that drugged feeling. I tried 3 different brands from the health food store that said they were organic and were the most expensive ones on the shelf. Finally I switched to a sublingual Folic acid that my doctor recommended instead of the prenatals. I got the same reaction to that. So that is why I switched to the Flinstones to see if they would be less potent. But no luck. They gave me the same reaction. I have reacted badly to B vitamins all of my life and so I never took them. I only started again because I knew the baby would need them. My aunt gets the same reaction as I do. She also get nausea.
I stopped trying to get pregnant for now and am trying to find out how I can incorporated T-4 into my life without the bad reactions. I am almost 42 and am running out of time. My doctor said some people get that reaction to T-4 and there are some women who have still gotten pregnant with low T-4. I'm using sperm donors and every time I don't get pregnant, it's $900 gone. I'm running out of $ too. I'm not opposed to adoption but would like to try and have a baby myself first.
The latest is that they want to do another radiated ultra sound on me. The last one was three years ago. I'm hesitant because I don't know how long the radiation will stay in my system and possibly harm the baby. They are also going to possibly check me for endometriosis. I had really painful periods all of my life.
Thank you for all of your support and feedback, I really appreciated it!

Not to be rude, but why would you take Flinstone Vitamins? Did the doctor suggest this? Please tell us more about your issue so that we can guide you in the right way.
Thanks!
wait... What is the history with you behind taking T4 meds? What is going on there? Do you have labs to show where you are at?
Are you taking fertility drugs or have you recently stopped taking birth control?
What actual B supplements are you trying? Are you deficient and your doctor wants to add this in your routine? OTC B's can be junk so many out there are not what true B complex really should be.
First of all, I don't advise getting pregnant until your T4/hypothyroidism is resolved.
Have you considered a natural dessicated thyroid drug made from pig thyroid. Some endos are very against any kind of dessicated drug, but some people just have a reaction to the synthetics.
Many people have found success with the drug Nature-Throid or just going to compounding pharmacies. Armour has new fillers that might cause a reaction. Others have reported reactions to their new fillers.
