NOT EUTHYROID gained 8 pounds

Some bad news first - At sub clinical hypothyroid still TSH reflex 3.85.  (BOOOOO) gained 8 pounds. (BOOOOO)

Good news. Nice long talk with the MD. At first he came in and said OK you are Euthyroid - (not realizing I saw the tests already) I said ... yeah right - look at your reference range .35 - 5.0!!!!

Then I blasted the AACE guidelines and blah blah balh - not shuting my mouth blah blah blah!!! I stated come on!! not euthyroid - sub clincial hypo. I was going off. I starting blabbering "feel good range and then............ he started giggling at me in a good way -

He then interrupted me saying ..........Look....  Ok yep feel good range btwn 1.0-2.0 and you are sub clinical hypo I know.. Ok I know you know what you are talking about. How much darn research are you doing?

I totally bursted out laughing and we finally clicked. He agreed to let me play with my Armour a bit - he actually made me proud of myself and my research that he said he "trusted" me to be able to cut these pills 1/2 and take 1 1/2 and adjust to HOW I FEEL!! I am happy he thinks I am no dummy anymore. :) I think the majic number is 90mcg for me :)

I remember when I was on 120mcg Armour and got the dosage change to 60mcg. Kitty and I were back and forth on this - I really wanted to take 90mcg from the get go - but Kitty and I discussed it and for better reasons then - it was best to follow his order. Now I am going on 90mcg now. I just have to chuckle. I can't believe I paid him to entertain him on MY knowledge. GEEEEESH!!!

BUT I TOLD YOU SO !!!!! :) as I said to him Now I gotta lose 8 more pounds on top of the 20 that I wanted to loose before. (DId I say BOOOOO already)?? All B 4 Maui in January 09. :(

Yucky cholestrol through (233) classicly hypo T. - I guess that gym membership is going to be used alot. LOL  I really am not worried about that - I think if I get to the 1.0 - 1.5 TSH that will change too.

Nodule discussion : I just came out and said I was scheduled for FNA this Monday. Told him I saw an ENT surgeon and got it scheduled. DId n't seem to bother him at all that I went on my own. :)
Remember I said in a previous post that this ENT ONLY wanted to pull out the left lobe with the nodule.. we all here were on the same page that getting the total TT would be best right?

So...... this time I played a little reverse psychology on my MD........... instead of "telling" him what the ENT said about the partial removal -

I calming said "Doctor M, if you were me... with MY history with RAI and poor care.... found the nodule and IT WAS pap cancer... with your knowledge would you do a partial removal or a total TT???

Guess what he said>????? ...........................YEAP a total TT. :)

Then I told him. what really happened at my ENT appt. - he shook his head.

Since my ENT appt. I met some people here where I live that have had their TT. One lady is trying to get me to Mayo - but after AR and I talked - the drive would be a hassle - then another woman whom I have know for 13 years through our sons baseball stepped up and told me about her TT - I never knew!!

In Milwaukee their is a superior medical hospitol called Froedert Hospitol. It is about 45 minutes away and people all over come here to have health care done? ANyone heard of this place?

Briefly, this woman has a wonderful endo surgeon - specialist in thyroid and I can see her.

I explained to my MD that she needs a referral from him - all my tests also. He was most accomadating. The only thing is I will not change meds if she asks too.

I am still going forward with the FNA Monday - but I think I will have my test sent to my MD and myself - along with the ordering physician the ENT.

He has some thoughts on my not sleeping stuff lately too. but no meds at my request. He said I need to stop triyng to work full time and a hecktic job - and stop being super wife and mom. He ended saying - let Scott make his own coffee at 3am and you stay in bed LOL -- yeah right,

I will see how that goes. MAybe if I get to that TSH 1.0-1.5 I won't be crashing so hard for 4 hrs and waking up and staying up.

Well my friends what are your thoughts?? I was so sure I was close in ranges - but I really want to see that 1.0-1.5 feel.

OH - remember that extra vile of blood I took last week for the TPO I WANTED done - THAT HE WOULD NOT DO? Well I DEMANDED in a nice way to please take that and run a TPO - I begged with asking please a dozens times and he said OK - it was getting ran before I left. I was told by my friend who drew the blood that the vile would be good for 7 days - so I hope I caught it in time.
DO your think that vile is OK 7 days old to run that TPO antibody test? I was told it would be good - but I need your thoughts too. It took so long to get the dam thing done - I would rather give fresh then it come back as a bad test. !!

I am going to start my posts "Nikki's novels" if I keep going on.  Please let me know your thoughts after yawning at this message :)

Oh and for all of you trying to get your doctors to listen - a little sugar DOES go a long way ---- the cheesecake was a success

:)

My family Dr. and I are pretty good buddies after these 20 some years. He told me that "doctor" means "teacher".....and a good teacher is always learning. I would always be suspicious if the doc does all of the talking.....I've learned to stay away from them if they think that they know it all!

That cat spit that bird out yet?

HAHAHAAHa

I am going to call the troops in to protect my kitty. He has a enlarged thyroid not a bird. Didn't you read my message on why I have him as me?

First time in 6 years I really had a good time at the doctors office. Sick... but true. and I am getting that TPO!!!

If you missed it I graveled back to his office last week with a cheescake apologizing for my rude behavior at my visit prior to this one. I was really sick with that flu bug and inflamation of the lungs - but I was determined IT WAS THYROID RELATED.

Well -- I was wrong - not totally b/c I was so convinced I had thyroid trouble I requested an ultra sound and a solid nodule was found . Never had I had a ultra sound and I have had trouble for 5 years with both Graves - RAI then hypo (could be hashi)

Hi,

From reading your post - you really do know your stuff and I am glad that the doctor is going to let you play with your dosage - because as you said - we are the ones who know how we feel.  Right now even though I reduced my medicine from 90 mg. Armour to 75, I am still racy and I really think it needs reducing.  But, I will put up with it so I don't mess up the timing on my blood work.  But if he says it is normal - I can't keep up the 75 - can't all be my nerves.

I have to admit I don't understand a lot in your post because as I said before, not having problems with my meds after taking for 40 years - I don't understand a lot of the terms you referred to.  But, I need to get informed on this because I have to be able to converse with my doctor in an intelligent manner.

Good luck with all that is going on and I hope you get all your wishes and feel good - that is most important.

Keep us posted and I will too,
Liz

kitty would be the one to ask about the blood sample. I had no idea you could leave a vial of blood laying around for a week and still be able to use it.

I think you're right about the sleep problem. I think it will get better once your TSH is a little lower. I think uncertainty may be causing you to lose a little sleep, too.

Never heard of the hospital, but it sounds like it is worth seeing this new doctor you are being referred to. It's convenient in as much as it is fairly close.

My guess is the Endo Surgeon is busy being a surgeon, but she may be able to point you to a competent Endo in the same facility to treat you long term or work with the surgeon short term.

I know the hormone level news was a little disappointing, but it looks like you are going to be able to change that with a med adjustment.

Sounds like a lot of progress to me. :^)

Stella-

Sounds like you had a great visit! You tell em, girl!! Way to go.

Ok here is the info on how long your blood specimen is viable for for the anti-TPO test:

Room temperature (up to 4 days), Refrigerate (up to
2 weeks), freeze (up to 1 year).

Was your specimen refrigerated or frozen? If not, it's a no go.
Get it redrawn.

I hope increasing the dose of Armour goes well for you!

YEAH STEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, overdone, I know, but still works.  Congrats, woman.  That's the way to take the bull by the horns.  Amazing what you can get done when you know your facts and don't back down from them.  Am so thankful for you that you've got a dr that listens.

You're on your way now.  Let's hope this train moves along quickly.
