Can I have a doctor's response?

I am 27 years old, I have just been diagnosed with acute Hashimoto's after at least 17 years as an undiagnosed sufferer. Doctors have been adjusting my thyroxine dose since june, and I'm up to 75 mcg, changing from 'eutirox, an italian make, to levothyroxine, but with both I have suffered terrible depression and moodswings, hair loss, dry skin, muscle cramps, tiredness, loss of concentration, etc. I have had none of the 'great' effects that people say they have when they take thyroxine. My life has just become really really hard to bear, to the point where it's affecting my relationships and my ability to work. Aren't I supposed to feel a little better each time they up the dose? I'm 27 and I just feel like a manic depressive old woman.

I am also extremely worried, as you may imagine, about infertility, as nobody seems to be able to give me clear answers. What are the risks of infertility? Where can I read studies on the subject? What can I do? What are the risks of miscarriage?

It sounds like you want an expert opinio since you titled CAn I have a doctors response. - There is a forum especially designed for doctors to review your question and answer.

On the other hand through - it sounds you are on the medication rollar coster ride any thyroid patients get on. This "ride" is horrible on the mental stability of the patient and requires alot of time management and patience.

I hope the doctor you have is someone who is a great provider of listening to your needs and adjust meds accordingly. If you are in a position where you being switch from one medication to another and at different levels with no valid test.- You need to rethink your care.

Now don't expect your meds to balance out right away. Each dosage change take 4-6 weeks to adjust and show results. This is where the patience comes in.

As for infertility I had my children proir to thyroid issue - sO I do not know much - For you I have heard once you are balanced - it should not be an issue. Seek a good OB that understands thyroids - they are your best resource. and many here would probably post if your question didn't reflet a doctors opinio. If you do not get many posters - repost your question with a different title.

Good Luck
