Hi. My grandmother refuses to go to a doctor, but we're able to get her to a lab. Can you please help me what these readings mean? T3 84.9 ng/dl (normal value 84.6), T4 is 6.33 (NV+ 5.13 to 14.06), her TSH is 4.52 (NV=0.27 to 4.20). She is 92 years old and there are things you cannot get her to do. She's previously diagnosed with heart failure and is thus taking some antihypertensives and a low dose diuretic. She seems to be asymptomatic where thyroid is concerned (no cold intolerance, tremors, easy fatigability, etc.) A decade or so ago, she was told that her thyroid work up had "borderline readings) whatever that exactly meant, thus the T3, T4 and TSH were included in her other blood exam. I would appreciate your interpretation of these results. Any suggested medications? is treatment warranted for seemingly asymptomatic patients? Or those with borderline readings?
