Pregnant with Hashimoto's.

Hey everyone!
I'm 23 years old and 8 weeks pregnant with my first. :) I have Hashimoto's and Adrenal Fatigue. I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and had a healthy baby? I'm so nervous.
I was taking Cortef before I got preggers, but because it's a steroid I can't take it. *And you know you can't take Thyroid meds while you have untreated adrenal issues... unless you're pregnant. Apparently.
So now I'm on 50mcg of Synthroid (my TSH is 8.58 :\) and not on ANY adrenal support. And I feel awful. And I'm not sure why you aren't supposed to take thyroid meds when you've got untreated adrenal fatigue, but I am now, and I am just confused as to if this is the right thing to do?

Hi,

i am surprised that they don't treat adrenals during pregnancy.  The steroid that one takes to support the adrenals is physiological not medical dosing.

Hope you can get second opinion soon.

We often find that there are issues with insurance and doctors.  Most people can find a doctor who will test/treat adequately.

If you've only been on the 50 mcg for 2 weeks, the dosage change won't have had time to build in your blood; that takes 4-6 weeks.

Do you have the lab results?  Don't forget the reference ranges.

I was on 25mcg before I got pregnant for 3 months and myh TSH only went to 7.8
My insurance hasn't kicked in yet. SO I'm screwed for a while and this insurance doesn't cover the doctors I liked.

Google: "Pregnancy and Adrenal Fatigue Anne's Health Place"  Anne carried 5 babies before her diagnosis of Addison's disease and 2 more babies after the diagnosis. Highly recommended reading with plenty of links to check out.  In short, her advice is "Listen to your body, and find a doctor who will work carefully with you, using symptoms as a guide." Good advice especially after reading some comments under the article.

The biggest issue with Hashimoto's is the hypothyroidism it produces.  As long as you keep your thyroid levels adequate, you should have no problems with your pregnancy.

It takes 4-6 weeks for the synthroid to reach full potential in your body.

Was 50 mcg your starting dose?  That's kind of high.

We'll look forward to seeing other test results and reference ranges; those will tell us a lot more.

I'll have to post them later, but I have been diagnosed Hashimoto's. I have only been on synthroid for two weeks, and off the cortef for two weeks. I'm going to start supplementing with adrenal support.

It's always best to treat an adrenal issue before trying to treat a thyroid issue; obviously, that's not always possible.  Is there something you can take in place of the cortef?

How long have you been on the synthroid, and was that your starting dose?

Have there been any thyroid tests, other than TSH, done?  You need also to have Free T3 and Free T4, each time tests are done. Those are the actual thyroid hormones and are much more important than TSH.  If you  have results for those, please post them, along with reference ranges, which vary lab to lab and must come from your own report.
