Did you get the additional testing done?  If so, what are the results, with reference ranges?

A TSH test is useful as a diagnostic only when at etreme levels.  In order to adequately diagnose a potential thyroid problem, the actual thyroid hormones must also be tested.    If tested for the active thyroid hormones, Free T4 and Free T3, please post results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.  Also, you should have been tested for thyroid peroxidase antibodies, TPO ab, and if negative, then thyroglobulin antibodies TG ab.  Did that happen?

No he didn't test T3 in any form but the free T4 was mid range - he just wanted to start me on 50 synthroid -  I don't think he wants to hear my questions or discussion - I am going on my own next week to an independent lab and get  the following: Thyroglobulin antibody test, TPO Antibody (Perioxidose) and advanced thyroid panel - I am not starting any thyroid med until I have a better idea of what is going on.  I will report back in - thanks for your response and support
