When do you take your med?

I receive author Mary Shomon's newletters all about thyroid issues and the most recent one discusses when the best time to take our meds is. I take mine in the morning with water and wait an hour before having anything else to eat or drink. This research suggests it might be better to take the med at night before going to bed. When do you take yours?

kevin,  i think you are right.  by the time my dose time comes, i feel like im "jonesing" for it like some sort of junkie.

I get tested today.  today is the 4 week mark on 1.5 grains.

I am still doubting myself for getting on NTH instead of straight t4, but i could not tolerate that t4 stuff for the life of me.

Moosey-  I was asking if you took any additional t3 in between your normal dosing of NTH.

i think thats a sign your still hypo. it used to happen to me your body not normal now in it rhythms. its reaching out causing sleep disturbances. when you take the  thyroid it temporary returns to a semi normal state and allows you to rest go back to sleep. your probably very tired to begin with , run down from being hypo.. as your levels rise your will sleep better back to normal and your energy will rise as all you sleep patterns and energy patterns bet back to normal. keep taking and retesting  the thyroid levels until you're frees and tsh are at a good level. When I mentioned T3 in the above comments, I was referring only to the natural T3 that is already in natural dessicated thyroid.

T3, whether in natural form or synthetic form have a similar short lasting feel - why taken 2x or 3x per day 'levels ' the feeling out. Some that have tried both  say the synthetic is more obvious as it comes on and fades hours later, but can feel a little stronger than natural..

Not sure what you meant by a 'snack' dose.?

Most take a bigger dose at the beginning of their day, with a smaller dose(s) later morning or afternoon.

If you take all of a thyroid med that contains T3 at once, you will be short- handing yourself of the benefits T3 has to offer later on in the day. "T4 only" meds are taken full dose at once because they take so long for the body to use. The T4 you take now, wont be used till later - why its termed the 'storage' hormone. Still, some claim they can feel T4 soon after they take it, which is puzzling, technically they should not be able to feel it since the body needs to convert it to T3 at its desired rate of need which is not all at once.

From what I know (myself and most others) at the proper dose, is the feel normal but can feel more alertness following a dose due to the fast acting T3. Most will feel the T3 fade 4 to 8 hours after. That is why these people take mutiple doses in the waking hours - to level out the peaks and valleys of the T3. When I was low in dose levels (still hypo) the peaks and valleys were much more apparent.
