NEVER and I mean NEVER take anything other than water with your thyroid medicine. Yes wait an hour before eating or drinking anything other than water. I take 300 mg of sythroid a day.
Lab results and ranges will very from lab to lab, so please post the ranges for those test results, as shown on the lab report.
Total T4, or T3, is an estimate of the total amount in the blood. Most of that is bound to protein and not biologically active. Only the small, unbound portions, thus called "free", are active.
The last listed test is for antibodies associated with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Hashi's is the most common cause for diagnosed hypothyroidism. With Hashi's the autoimmune system erroneously identifies the thyroid gland as foreign to the body and produces antibodies to attack and eventually destroy the gland. As the gland is being destroyed, the output of T4 and T3 is diminished, the TSH level increases, and replacement thyroid medication is required to prevent hypothyroid symptoms.
Hi there. It's not just weight gain but that's the issue I'm first trying to get under control along with my cholesterol. I've been on synthroid since 2007 shortly before getting pregnant with my daughter. I also have crohns disease so fatigue has always been an issue due to both. I recently went to a new doctor and had tons of lab work done. My triglycerides are through the roof. Here are my numbers which I don't think are really bad but I'm just beginning to learn all this stuff:
TSH 7.23
T4 7.7
T4, free 0.96
T3 113
T3, free 2.7
Anti-Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody <600
Not sure what the 'free' means or that last one.
thank you for any help.
Before getting into discussion about your status, please post your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report. Also, what symptoms do you have besides weight gain?
