Epididymitis

Hi,
I'm a 22 year old male. About 3 and a half month ago, my left epididymis and spermatic cord really started to swell, so I went to the doctor, and he diagnosed me with epididymitis. I took antibiotics for two weeks, and when I went back to the doctor, an ultrasound was performed, and the infection had dissappeared, and he said I fine. Now 3 months has past, and the swelling has not gone down, the epididymitis and spermatic chord is still huge. I'm starting to get a little worried.

so my questions are: how long does it take for the swelling to settle? and may it be that there is a recurrent infection?
And last of all, how likely is sterility in cases of chronic epididymitis?

In advance thank you for your reply.

Hello.

I had epididymitis due to chlamydia. The swelling has gone down and so has the pain. I was diagnosed with this 8 weeks ago.

At the moment I just have small discomforts in testicle that radiates to my leg.

Anyone that can give me some information on when this hell will end?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
These symptoms can be due to recurrent epididymitis, varicocele or hydrocele. Chronic epididymitis is characterized by epididymal pain and inflammation that lasts more than 6 weeks and may be accompanied by scrotal induration. Please get an evaluation done from a urologist and get all these three possibilities ruled out.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Hi,

I have had this several times and it takes months for things to improve. In my case swelling of the right epididymis is permanent. I used to come down with epididymitis about every 3 to 4 months. As a result things did not heal up before the next infection started again.
To try and stop infections from spreading into the testicles, I had a vasectomy in 1999. As a comlications from the vasectomy in the form of a hematoma, I lost my left testicle a year later. The good news is that I have had no infections of the remaining testicle.

All the best,

Ron
