Hello all,
I've been diagnosed urethritis last january. Doc gave doxy and metronidazole for 10 days which cleared the burning sensation and some testicular and groin pain but not the urgency and frequency to urinate. After those 10 days, one day I woke up and had a hard to time to start peeing and had a very weak stream: new diagnosis - prostatitis. Doc gave me cipro and doxy 8 days with no result. Bactrim for 10 days, no result. As I live in Africa, I went to Portugal to get a second opinion, and the doctor gave me levo for 20 days; no result. Afterwards tried another uru, and he told it was all about the food I was I taking, had a huge diet lost 7 kilos, no result.
Longstory short, I demanded that they performed a sperm culture and voila, positive for e coli resistant to cipro (probably thats why levo didnt work), bactrim and amoxicillin. However it was sensible to amoxicillin clavulanic, fosfomycine, nitrofurantoin and imipenem. So the doctor choice was amox clav 4 weeks and 1 dose of fosfomycice 3 g every week.
My question is: if my ecoli is resistant to amox but sensible amox clav is it the best choice? Doctor answer was that the clavulanic acid would protect the amox and kill the bacteria. Another thing is the prostate penetration, which from what ive read is very poor with amox clav. Im reaching the 3rd week of treatment, and still have some difficulties starting urinating, frequency and some testicular and groin pain. Thank god I can have sex without pain and enjoyable.
Could anyone tell me if had any sucess with any of the mentioned antibiotics mentioned above? I've read some sucess studies of a full treatment of fosfomycine, but not sure about the prostate penetration.
Im 31 years old btw.
Thanks in advance
