painful urination for over a month

Hello,

I'm really desperate to figure out what is happening with me.  At the beginning of August I began to experience sharp pain while urinating and sometimes sharp pain that comes and goes on my lower right side.  I had my yearly gyno exam and they tested my urine and it was fine.  For about 15 years the doctors have been saying I have endometriosis so my gyno recommended a laparoscopy because he felt the pain was coming from the progression of endo.  I had that done on August 25th.  They found endo on my uterosacral ligament and lasered it off.  I didn't have any endo on my bladder.  I've fully recovered from that procedure but continue to have the sharp pain while urinating particularly when I'm almost finished.  Then I'll have some strange feelings in my urethra.  I went to a Urologist last week and he said it sounded like spasms and gave me Sanctura to try for 3 weeks.  I took two doses and felt terrible.  It made me very dizzy and sick to my stomach.  So I stopped it.  I only took 2 doses but it didn't seem to help.  The Urologist said if the Sactura didn't help he would look with the scope but didn't think he'd find anything.  I had my urine checked there and it was clear of bacteria.  I'm at my wits end!  Could I have an infection that isn't showing up on the urine tests?  I've never had a this kind of problem before with all my years of pain from endometriosis.  Do you have any suggestions for me?  I'm tempted to go to a Urgent Care today and beg for antibiotics!
Thank you!
Lori

Thank you! Is it possible to have an infection without it showing up on a urine dip test?  I went today and again it was negative.  I asked the doc there and they said after 4 weeks of this pain I should show something on the test.  They send it out for culture anyway.

Hello frogturtle,

I do understand your problem well. Drugs such as oxybutynin chloride (Ditropan®) and tolterodine (Detrusitol®, Detrol LA®) are taken orally, once a day, for overactive bladder. You can consult your doctor for these options. Also, I suggest you can initiate antibiotics like ofloxacin for better management of the infection.
