Combination of symptoms

I recently saw my gp for a burning and urgency in urinating.  I also had a fever and body aches.  They took a urine sample and said I had an infection.  The prescribed an antibiotic.  A day later I also had a slight bubbling of urine at the tip of my penis as I finished urinating.  The burning and urgency is already starting to decline after two days.  Should I wait to see if the bubbling goes away with the use of the antibiotic or is that symptom not related?

Hi,

Does the bubbles appear also in your urine?  Urinary tract infections (UTI) are one of the most common bacterial infections today. The usual symptoms of uncomplicated UTI's are pain or burning on urination, urge to urinate, or increased urination frequency. Foamy urine may indicate protein in the urine with or without infection. Bubbles in the urine stream, on the other hand, is abnormal unless you have had a recent catheter or a recent cystoscopy. More worrisome causes of bubbles in the urine include a severe urinary tract infection with a gas forming organism usually in diabetics  Or more common is the presence of enterovesical fistula. If you have bubbles in your urine stream, it would be best to see your doctor immediately. If it is just foamy urine, you may need to take the entire course of antibiotics recommended by your doctor to ensure that the infection is completely eradicated. Take care and keep us posted.

Hi,

The bubbling could be part of the symptoms complex of the UTI.
It could also arise if there has been excretion of protein in urine as this can also cause foaming of the urine.

If the infection is responding to the prescribed antibiotics, it would be bets to wait for this symptom to resolve.

A possibility that needs to be ruled out if the symptoms persist is that of the development of a fistula with some other viscera that can contain air.

Do increase your fluid intake and keep it over 2000 ml as concentrated urine can also cause bubbling.

Keep us posted on your doubts and progress.
regards
