Just want to cry/scream

Well I have been really good since 1st January and consistently lost weight -  slow but steady.... then today I put on 2.4lbs wham! I am not due for my period... I dont have an IBS attack happening....

I have worked out at the  gym 2 days running.... burning off almost 1000 calories in total -  I have eaten less than 3000 calories the last 2 days combined -

IF the reason is as my gym instructor told me to expect, a weight gain from starting to use weight machines -  then how long can I expect this weight increase to last before the added muscle starts burning the unwanted fat????

I am trying to stay motivated and push through the plattau I was in for 5 days but this weight gain has knocked me sideways this morning -  what should I do???

Dont you get discouraged or give up for that matter!! I know you are determined and have done such a great job!! You keep pushing forward and like i say show that scale whos the boss!!! You can do it!!! As the girls said just keep up and one set bk will not stop you your body and will adjust and that scale will finally give up and do what you say!!

GTDI, I cannot stress to you enough to stick with it.  I'm going to call you Got_To_Stick_To_It!  It WILL work to your benefit, but GIVE IT ADEQUATE TIME!  When I was losing my "big" weight, adding strength-training was key.

Please, don't quit.  It is recommended that everyone do strength training 2 days/week.  That's all!  Give it no less than 2 months before you decide it's not working!  You really cannot know with any less than that!

You can do it!!!

This happened to me more times than I can count. That's why I'd start a routine and then stop- because I saw the scale increase instead of decrease. Every time I'd stop the weight would go back down a few lbs.

Well I decided, when I joined this group, to STICK with it. The scale went up a pound or two and then............ finally started to see weight come off. It really will come off. I would expect it to happen in a few days to a week.

Morning Sunshine ~ Know these times can be frustrating but this is a time that your "brain" has to take charge and KNOW that you are doing the right thing for your health, your goals and your future!

When you are eating correctly, exercising correctly and toning correctly, your body will eventually respond and continue in a downward movement.  There are those inevitable bumps where you gain for a bit .. but it is only temporary.

Either you are building muscle and it weighs more, you are expending more energy than you are taking in and your body is viewing it as an attack and holding on to a few extra calories to protect you from starvation .. or a combination of both.

Keep doing just as you are and posting here for support.  YOU are a FINE example of the power of positive thinking, setting your goals, believing and achieving them.  Remember .. THIS is YOUR YEAR!

Keep strong, stay steady and try not to let a little scale get the best of you.  It is just a tool to give you feedback ... your "Brain" is responsible for analyzing the data.  You know where you were .. how you have gotten to where you are .. so give yourself some BIG HUGSSSS and some Pats on the Back for a job very well done!  Take a look at your weight tracker .. your measurements .. your clothes and your pictures .. and gain your strength from those!

PS - My longest plateau was 6 weeks .. YOURS will not last that long!  :)

Thanks -  I know I am doing the right things -  as far as diet and cardio goes... and adding the weights to tone up and speed up the weight loss a bit is good.

But I am not good at patience and over 2lb weight increase overnight was pretty depressing!

I will stick with it though as I am fpcused and determined -  thank you for sharing your experience :)

I had similar frustrations when I started back in October. I just wanted to loose weight, but started climbing up due to weight training. I just kept going with the weights, and stepped up the cardio. It took almost 3 weeks to see my weight slide the other way, but now it is coming off more rapidly then my previous attempts with just doing cardio. I've read that every pound of muscle burns 60 calories per day simply doing nothing. I don't know if that is accurate, but it sounds worth it to tone up. My advice is to stick with it and try not to get frustrated.
