Losing weight does have a lot to do with diet, but I've always found that exercise works best for me.
Walking is really good, but you have to keep changing things up, so your body doesn't get used to the same thing. During the winter, I do about 3-6 miles/day because I have a walking partner and we can get out, but during the summer, I'm more likely to hit the treadmill because hubby doesn't like me walking alone and it's really too hot to do a lot outside. It IS important to add strength/resistance/weight training to your routine, because that's what really builds the muscles and muscles burn fat.
I personally think it has a lot more to do with diet rather than the kind of exercise one is doing. But with that said, I do varied amount of cardio exercise to keep it mixed up.
Some days I hit the tread mill, some days the bike, some days the eliptical machine and some days I'll do a good amount of 2 of the 3.
Are you incorporating weight training into your program?
