My gyno didn't notice I have a septate hymen?!

I went for a gynecological exam last month and the doctor couldn't successfully do the pap smear test because he couldn't get the speculum into me as it was causing me significant pain and discomfort. Recently, I tried to use a tampon for the first time and I got it in, but had tremendous difficulty taking it out. I thought about going to the ER. Finally, after a couple hours, I was able to get it out myself, after discovering that the tampon was catching on a SECOND HOLE. I pulled the tampon out through the larger hole while holding the smaller one shut with my pinky. Is this why the gyno couldn't do the exam? How did he not notice that I have a septate hymen?! Do you think I will be able to have penetrative sex? Had that gyno noticed, I would have had the septum removed by now..
