Odd cramping after orgasm and bowel movements

This is quite odd but I experience an uncomfortable cramping in my lower abdomen after I have an orgasm or after a particularly intense bowel movement. It's somewhat painful but definitely more on the uncomfortable side. Occasionally I will also feel the cramping when I get sexually excited. It doesn't last for too long, a few minutes at most but I was curious if anyone else had experienced something like this.

Thank you for your feedback.

Hi eljay, wondering if you have any news yet??

I have been suffering for about three years now, after orgasm, awake or asleep, severe cramps, sweats, dizzyness, loss of bowel, conscious but unable to see or move.  It seems to be worse when my period is due, and excruciating if i have skipped a few periods on the pill.  I lay in the bottom of a cold shower to try lower my body heat.

It's all very traumatic, so finally picked up the courage to go to the Dr (as we all know its really quite embarrassing), she sent me for an internal ultrasound, found nothing.  Then she came to the conclusion it was a normal thing for my body and i needed to learn to live with it!!!!   Something this painful can not, under any circumstances be normal.

I'm so so glad i'm not the only one, doesn't fix the problem but makes me feel a lot better

not sure if all of you who have posted in this forum are still checking it, but for those of you who are still checking it, and get the pain either the day after, or two days after sex or an orgasm (not immediately after like a lot of the posts on here) I have started taking nurofen/pain killers before going to bed on the night of having sex, as well as the night after. I haven't had the pain after sex for a while, so I am wondering if the nurofen helps my muscles relax during my sleep... i know the problem must be far more complex than this, but i have found it helps, even as a temporary fix.

i hope this helps at least ONE person on here (although I'm sure majority of you have tried this).

This is not the first forum I've found for this, but unfortunately all of us are suffering from the same symptoms with the same medical responses.  I've been suffering since 2004.  I am gay and have very rarely been penetrated (the pain comes whether I am or not though)..Needless to say I am not on contraception, and I have also never had children.  The pain is basically guaranteed after orgasm, and when it's bad enough it is accompanied by vomiting, but it can happen for no reason at all too.  Such as going for a jog, after eating, or waking from the pain in the middle of the night (without a sexual dream).

My pain is usually on the lower right side to the center of my belly, generally around the uterine area, and the best way I can describe mine is that it is as if someone has reached into my insides and started twisting them around.  Sometimes I just want so badly to get away from myself because of the pain, and obviously there is no where to go.

I keep an electric heating pad on my nightstand which has helped the pain to go away quicker when it wakes me in the night.  The only other time I won't have pain is during my cycle.

I had the laparoscopy, colonoscopy, a swallowed a pill camera and had it monitored as it made its way through me, uterine biopsy etc.  All coming up with no answers.  Though I did have adhesions for some reason, their removal, along with any cysts did not fix the problem.  I was put on Bentyl that did nothing but make me tired.

Someone else on here has said they avoid sex because it isn't worth the pain and I couldn't agree more.  It is sad to see how many of us are suffering from all different persuasions and ways of life all around the world with no medically conclusive responses.  Which doesn't make sense to me.  How do we get this women's health issue researched?  There are easily thousands of women with the same problem, someone should have a better answer than what any of us have been given.

Oh, and I am going to fill this out too.

1. Are you underweight, normal weight, overweight or obese?
I think slightly underweight for my height, i am 5ft10" and 62kgs

2. How old were you when the pains started?
23

3. How long have you experienced the pain for?
just over 1 year

4. When do you get pain?
two days after sex or masturbation, anything that involves orgasm!

5. Is the pain particularly bad after one of the above?
I don't get the pain immediately after sex, i just experience a dull period-like ache but then two days later i am rolling around in excruciating pain :(

6. Do you only have the pain after orgasm or after arousal as well?
only after orgasm, lately I have been just trying to stay relaxed during sex and not let myself orgasm, as it seems to be something related to my stomach muscles tensing up... which *****!

7. Do you experience pain all month or just at particular times?
As mentioned in my above posts I am now on the pill for long period to stop the endometriosis coming back, but before that it happened right between periods, maybe between days 13-16 of my cycle.

8. Do you know if your mother, grandmother or sisters have the same pains?
Neither sister nor mother have experienced this

9. Have you been diagnoised with fibroids?
no, i have had a laparoscopy and all was healthy. Apparently I do have an abnormally large ovary though.

10. If you are a mother, did you have the pains before, during and after pregnancy?
Not a mother

11. How long does your pain last?
it comes in waves, lasting up to 20 minutes each time, for a couple of hours total.

12. When the pain passes, will it return if you resume sexual activity?
No.. as i said mine occurs two days after sex, and i definitely don't feel like it after being in the bathroom all morning.

13. Describe the pain.
it feels like really intense period pain, like someone is wringing me out like a sponge to get everything out of me. It does feel like a gynaecological pain, and my sense is that because of all the 'pushing' sensation, it makes my bowls go to. As mentioned in my above post it is what I imagine labour to feel like (even thought I"m sure it's about 1/100th of the pain), but it's almost like my vagina is trying to push something else. The muscles inside my vagina are always very tender afterwards.

Hi everyone,

I know I am a bit late with contributing to this forum, but I only started searching my symptoms earlier this year when I became fed up with the pain.

I am 24 years old and have only experienced this pain in the past year. I have had the same sexual partner for almost 5 years. About a year ago I began to start randomly having severe stomach pains when having a bowel movement. I would be in the bathroom for so long my legs would go numb from sitting down. The pain is so severe that it was what I imagine labour to feel like; I could actually feel a 'pushing' sensation out of my vagina, almost like a contraction (keeping in mind I have never given birth, this is all what I imagine) and because of that pushing it was causing me to have a bowel movement. The pain I experience is not immediately after sex, although immediately after sex I do feel very dull period-like pain in my lower abdomen. This had always occurred two days after sex, so e.g. have sex on Saturday night, and be rolling around in pain on the Monday morning. Sunday I would be fine.

I started to record my diet, I cut out gluten and dairy, I had a colonoscopy and everything was healthy, so I then went to the gyno and had a laparoscopy. She discovered I had a very small amount of endo which was removed, but I am still experiencing the pain. I am on the pill, however this only seems to occur 'mid cycle', although technically I am not supposed to ovulate. My gyno told me to skip my periods for as long as I can for up to 6 months at a time to avoid the endo spreading again, which has made it even harder to track when I am mid cycle and susceptible to the pain.

It has been very difficult because I had to miss so much work this year because of this. It has affected my relationship because I am hesitant to have sex because all I can think about is the pain I am going to feel in two days time. No one (until I came on this forum) seems to have heard of it, and no one has any answers. I was so relieved to read I am not the only one that I actually started to cry!!!

Further to my last post I've gone to the top!

I've sent an email with a brief explanation of the mystery condition and a link to this forum to the Head of Discipline & Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology at the University of Sydney.

I've asked if there is any research currently being undertaken into this condition.

I will report any response I receive.

Cross your fingers (and legs) ..... I hope to get back to this forum soon.
