adenomyosis

Hi all,

In  november 2009 i had an endometrial ablation rather than a hysterectomy due to continuos bleeding. The ablation was a success as it stopped my bleeding completely. However, i started getting severe contraction like pain in my pelvis every 4 - 6 wks and would have to attend hospital to be treated for the pain. I found only morphine helped!!

After numerous ultrasound scans, mri scan and even having my appendix removed ( as that had to be eliminated as the course of my pain ) my consultant eventually gave me the diagnosis of having adenomyosis.
To further prove this diagnosis, he put me on zoladex injections every 4 weeks. I had 3 injections in total and was due for another today. He told me today that zoladex is not a long term solution for adenomyosis and he doesn't want me to be in the menopause any longer than necessary ( i'm not taking hrt and i'm 35 yrs old). He has advised me to have a hysterectomy.

He wants nature to take it's course , inevitably i will be admitted back into hospital once the injections wear off as i know i will not be able to handle the pain and then he will operate.

Does anyone know how long it takes for zoladex to wear off???
My doctor also told me there is a small chance the pain may not return.... im not so convinced. Has anyone ever had this happen to them??

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Lisa x

I to have been diagnosed with Adenomyosis recently. It was discovered during a diagnostic laproscopy, d & c, Leep, and endometrial ablation. My bleeding has been up and down the past Month. I had the procedure on July 28th. I was told to take Anti Inflammatories & percocet pain meds. I too have the same contractions you speak of. They are causing many problems with daily living. My gyn also says hysterectomy is the only fix. I can also use a heating pad or soak in a hot tub for relief. When I go back at 3months we will talk about this further. I havent went to the ER for any morphine yet but have considered it. My doctor told me that menopause will stop this disease too. So If my periods stop I may try to wait .. I dont know what to do. Have you discovered anything new ??

Hi Lisa I was diagnosed with adenomyosis in july last year after having a laparoscopy in feb 2010 as i thought my endometriosis had returned (had it removed when i was 25 yrs old)as it turned out there was a small amount of endometriosis which was removed but with no effect on my pain. so after finally having an MRI it showed early stages of adenomyosis.I am also 35 yrs old just married and now trying to get pregnant as yes a hysterectomy is the only cure but if you dont want that, the pain management i have been on works significantly to combat the severe pain.I refused the injections as i had done a lot of research and i wanted children so it wasnt an option for me.However the medication im on Amitriptalyne 75mg per day, tramadol or tramacet i alternate them so my body doesnt get used to one more than the other  has really helped!do you have children already?hope this was of help to you as an alternative to hysterectomy.
