Ibuprofen during contractions and delivery?

I'm planning on having a baby and I'm already considering my options for giving birth. I'm scared of pain but don't want an epidural. I noticed that in general Ibuprofen works very well for me. Is it safe to take Ibuprofen (400mg) orally during contractions and delivery (I've never heard of such a thing, but perhaps it would be possible, to at least dull the pain)?

I would not think 400 mg of Ibuprofen would help with contraction-related pain as contractions sound far worse than menstrual cramps.  You could ask your OBGYN to be sure, but I would not count on your doctor telling you this will take the edge off.  I would ask the OBGYN if there are other options to relieve the pain besides the epidural.  I can understand the hesitancy there.  Best wishes!

Thanks for your input. As you suggest, I will ask my OB/Gyn for other options. All the best to you too.
