Sunday Weigh-In December 9, 2018

Good morning... How is everyone doing this morning?  It looks like we're in for a dark and dreary day, here in sunny Florida - at least for part of the day.  It's not quite daylight yet and is raining pretty steadily right now.  These are the kind of days I don't really like - I do need my sunshine...  :-)

There hasn't been a lot going on here.  I spent the past 3 days getting ready for, and conducting, a yard sale... I certainly put more time and effort into the project than it was worth.  We had beautiful weather - sunny, with temps in the 80's and I had Christmas decorations, along with quite a few things that people might have been able to use for last minute gifts, but still didn't sell much.  There was a lot of interest in everything, but people just weren't buying, even though I made it clear the prices were merely "suggestions" and everything was negotiable.  Oh well, I do have more money than I started out with and if I hadn't been manning a yard sale, I might not have been doing anything else constructive either.  As long as I was outside anyway, I did a few minor yard chores while waiting for customers to come so between making a few dollars and getting some yard work done, I am ahead...

On top of making a bit of money and getting some yard chores done, I got in more walking than I've been doing over the past few weeks, so my Fitbit was happier, too.  That means my scale was also happier because I'm down by 1.4 lbs from last week.  I still have a couple of pounds to go to get back to the lowest weight I was at before Thanksgiving, but hopefully, I can still get back there before Christmas.

I'm still having trouble with my stomach, which is causing a lot of bloat and some of the weight issue, so I have to figure out how I'm going to deal with that, but hopefully, I'll be able to figure that out soon.

Now, to figure out what to do with the stuff left over from my yard sale, which is currently, sitting in the screen porch (good thing it has windows we can close to keep everything dry).  Some will be donated, but I'll have to find a place to sell the rest.  E-Bay, maybe...

I also have to finish getting ready for Christmas, which has sort of gotten lost in the shuffle of the past few days. I do have a tree up inside, though there are no gifts under it yet.  We also put up the outside tree that my husband made last year.  It hangs from the flag pole and lights up the night sky; it's much prettier than the mundane street light and because it's up in the air, can be seen from further away than the street light.  :-)

So, what's going on in your lives?  How is the weight loss/maintenance and everything else going?  I hope it's all going as planned.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

We had gourmet pizza and sweets last night, the first chance in ages that I've had to eat dinner alone with my husband at a relatively sophisticated place. Up .6 of a lb. this morning. This isn't bad, since it puts me back to where I was only two weeks ago, but it's not moving the right direction. I'll check tomorrow, assuming that at least some of it is from the salt.

My little sister showed up at my house two days ago and we cleaned, cleaned, cleaned. This was the kind of thing where stuff wasn't put away (a 20-lb. bag of dog food, for example) because the cupboard that it is goes into is full. This meant, in order to put away the one thing we would empty the whole cupboard and sort it, put some things in the Goodwill, some in the trash, some (extra cat food that the cat doesn't like) in the "give-to-Animal-Control" box and some in other places, THEN put the 20-lb. bag of dog food away. This is slow cleaning! but if it was the fast stuff, it would have been done. (For example, I never have dirty dishes hanging around. There is room in the dishwasher. lol)

Anyway, it was really kind of her, we literally cleaned for 9 hours with only one break to go get my son at school. She even went into his room with him and helped him put things away, only needing to check with me every now and then to ask where some category of thing went. (Such as, "Where does his suitcase go?" "In the left side of his closet, but you will have to take things out of there that aren't supposed to be there, to put it away." But she did it. And I think she liked working with my son, who was too unsure of himself with her to be whiny or balky, and cheerfully worked hard alongside her and told her what things could go into the Goodwill. He even vacuumed, which she thought was charming. Says her boys don't even know what a vacuum cleaner is for.

The only depressing part is that every drawer I open or basket I look in, it seems like at least half of the stuff needs to be weeded out. This is what comes of mostly devoting my time to the immediate care and feeding of my son and husband. It gets so emotionally exhausting that the sorting kind of clean-up grinds to a halt for lack of the psychic energy. The next day, kitchen counters gleaming and empty, it dawned on me to put all my bras into lingerie bags and wash them and hang them out. I would not have been able to find the impetus to do that (even though it had been a while) if the kitchen still had a big bag of dog food out on the counter. She did me a HUGE service.

I'll put it on my mental list that not eating so many baddies is a good idea this week, and should be able to knock off the .6 of a pound.

Wow - is your sister some kind of angel or what??  Why don't you send her to my house and she can help me clean out my stuff?  Actually, I've sort of been doing some of the same thing, but it does get a bit overwhelming at times because it always gets worse before it gets better.

Anyway, it's good that you got things sorted out and put into boxes/piles and know what you're going to do with different things.

When I have a lot of drawers/cabinets that need to be sorted, I find that visualizing the whole project makes it almost paralyzing, whereas if I simply pick a drawer or cabinet and start sorting/organizing, it usually only takes a short time and I feel a real sense of accomplishment.  I tend to procrastinate though... I've also started keeping a donation bag/box and when I come across things I no long want to keep, including clothing I no longer wear, I drop them into the bag/box and when it's full (or when I get tired of it), I drop it off at the local Hospice Thrift Store (instead of Good Will).

Still a sister to come help me would be a real treat... lol

0.6 lbs isn't so much to be up since you went out for pizza and sweets last night.  That's a lot of sodium and depending on what was on the pizza maybe some extra fat or carbs as well.  I bet you'll be able to get that off again this week without too much trouble.
Down .6 of a pound this morning, not a surprise. Now I just have to avoid the Christmas candy that is streaming into the house and I'l all set. lol

Yes, this sister was very kind to do it. I have several sisters and I actually hired my big sister to come and do sorting with me because she has done it professionally, but we only had three days, and that wasn't enough time for so many years of accumulation. So my little sister apparently got interested -- knew I was feeling really burdened by all the stuff, and that my big sister had to leave. (She also got two boxes of goodies when big sis and I sorted, so that probably reminded her that the kind of stuff I'm getting rid of is cool stuff, not old crap.) Anyway, she has been angry with me and our other sisters over who took care of my dad during his last ailing years, so I would not have thought she would come and help. But she sure did. It  helps so much to have company at such a miserable and boring task.
Wow - didn't take you long to drop that 0.6 lb did it?  A little bit of Christmas candy might be better than none - you won't feel deprived??  It works that way for me if I stop at a little bit...

I guess it helps to have goodies to give away when you're clearing things out, too, when it comes to recruiting help.  :-)  But it was still nice that your sister was willing to come help.  I sure wouldn't be able to get my sisters to come help me and they aren't even angry with me - well, not about anything specific anyway...lol   Apparently, your sister doesn't carry grudges or was willing to set aside any hard feelings she might have had in order to help.

Projects of that nature are almost always done with company; it makes them less daunting and the get done a lot faster.
Amen to that. When my sisters leave, I look at the stuff sitting out that I was going to finish and don't do it. I can always find urgent things that take priority -- son needs to get to school! Problems with homework! I just had a repeat mammogram (second call-back) today! [ -- Nothing wound up being wrong, but still, it took time and attention to schedule it and go.] Volunteering at the school!  Sears guy is coming to fix the fridge! Son's medical appointment! Bills to pay! Etc. etc. Anything is more interesting than sorting old household possessions. :)
"Anything is more interesting than sorting old household possessions."   Yes, and that's why it nearly always ends up being overwhelming for me, because I put it off for so long and instead of having one or two drawers or closets to go through, I have a whole house full of them to do all at once, plus all the cleaning to get done, as well...

Now, I've put off getting my Christmas cards addressed and in the mail.  Some of them have small gifts that go along and should already have been mailed... they must get mailed this week in order to get there by Christmas and I don't even have one of the gifts made yet... oops!!  :-)
