I believe there should be some sort of legal action

I've been a member of this site for a few years.  I've had my share of addiction battles with painkillers.  I've seen and read the hundreds of posts by others who have had to suffer like I have; some much worse than mine.  I think it's time we do something about the core of the problem by sending a message to these massive pharmaceutical companies who have pushed their products on good, but naive people knowing full well people like us would get "hooked."  I'm just trying to gauge how many people feel the same way?  How many people's lives have been ruined or suffered long-term side effects of these painkillers?  Enough is enough!  The tobacco industry, the asbestos industry and others have long tried to hide the long-term, debilitating and life-threatening effects of their products and have been exposed for their cover-ups!  Thoughts?

You said,
" I called a rehab center.  The man made me feel that without going through their program, I will never quit.  I did relapse twice but doing as well as can be now.  It's a moneymaking machine.  For the companies, doctors and rehab centers.  Let's just say the patient's best interests aren't at heart... "

To make such a general statement implies that ALL doctors, ALL companies and ALL rehab centers are just after someone's money and don't truly care abut their patients.  I couldn't DISAGREE MORE.

Nursegirl eluded to this to some degree...but as a recovering addict myself, reading thru all your comments on this thread, the reoccurring thought for me has been that you are spending A LOT of mental and emotional ENERGY on this.
I don't know how long you have been clean.
I don't know if you are doing any counseling or getting any aftercare support.
But I do hear a lot of resentment, some anger, some "we need to fix THEM"...going on.  I can tell you that "for me" and for me only....I have to work on ME first.....create a strong spiritual foundation.....and then see where I might invest myself.

Many times in my life my passion has caused me to "sword-fight windmills"
and then I later learned that the depleted energy would have been better spent working on the only thing I do have the power to change...and that's ME.

"God grant me the Serenity to accept the PEOPLE I cannot change, the Courage to change the PERSON I can, and the Wisdom to know it's ME."

Well, best of luck to you in your endeavor.

I would caution you to make sure that you don't become so engrossed in this that you don't put as much work into your ongoing recovery.

While what you want to do is admirable, I'd personally rather see you put that passion and drive into YOURSELF.

Definitely keep us posted!

With all this said, I am ready to spearhead this initiative, whether it's for oxy, tramadol or suboxone.  For those of you who disagree about accountability, I respect your opinion.  For all others who suffered like I did and want to make a change, you can send me a private message on available options.

Sonrissa, the first time I wanted to get off of oxy, I called a rehab center.  The man made me feel that without going through their program, I will never quit.  I did relapse twice but doing as well as can be now.  It's a moneymaking machine.  For the companies, doctors and rehab centers.  Let's just say the patient's best interests aren't at heart...

Well said, Nursegirl.  I agree.  This is a great discussion.

Also, on the ad thing, since joining this site, plus Googling stuff about addiction, I get emails advertising rehab facilities. It is a little scary.

LOL at your ad window...that's google ads for you.

If you browse the internet for anything, you will start getting ads on your page that are related (on various sites that use google ads).  Try it.  Search something like Bass Pro Shops, or how to grow green beans....you will notice LOTS of related ads for a while after the search.

It's kind of creepy and stalkerish, lol.

That's why a lot of people will complain that ads that wouldn't be appropriate for an addiction forum will appear, it's solely because of the page content.
