I believe there should be some sort of legal action

I've been a member of this site for a few years.  I've had my share of addiction battles with painkillers.  I've seen and read the hundreds of posts by others who have had to suffer like I have; some much worse than mine.  I think it's time we do something about the core of the problem by sending a message to these massive pharmaceutical companies who have pushed their products on good, but naive people knowing full well people like us would get "hooked."  I'm just trying to gauge how many people feel the same way?  How many people's lives have been ruined or suffered long-term side effects of these painkillers?  Enough is enough!  The tobacco industry, the asbestos industry and others have long tried to hide the long-term, debilitating and life-threatening effects of their products and have been exposed for their cover-ups!  Thoughts?

Hahaha, Tony....it's nice to hear you say you found SOMETHING good about your Dad drinking at the "cop bar"....LOL  Thanks for that!  (I'm still looking for one :)

Accountability can only come from people with integrity.  People willing to stand up for what's right even when/if their family is being threatened.  As long as we have cops, judges, senators, prosecutors, on and on that can be "bought"......and that number is rapidly growing....the odds are slim that good will triumph over evil.

Alcoholism affects the lives of more individuals and families than we could ever imagine (my family in a HUGE way).....yet when watching our favorite national sports teams or certain TV channels....the adds for Jack Daniels or Crown Royal being poured over ice cubes is "the norm" and acceptable.  Magazines, too. Plus they almost always add the sexual flare to draw you in.  Sexy women and booze go together....and so do sports and booze.....that's being portrayed as All American and we're buying it.

I believe that until hearts change.....corruption will not change~

I just wanted to point out, as soon as I posted my last comment, an add for a prescription drug was in my add window on medhelp. I found that simply ironic.

You can apply that thought (can't seem to find the right word) to almost all of the big issues facing this country. There are millions of laws on the books that are not enforced.  They can pick and chose what laws, and when they are enforced.  It also seems as if certain laws only apply to certain individuals or companies. I think that is a huge problem.

There are lots of huge billboards here from doctors advertising medical marijuanna.  Seems like there is one on every street.  This is to your point about advertising RX drugs.

The U.S. Is the only country it is legal to advertise prescribed meds, good point Jinx. 94% of the worlds opiate production is consumed in the U.S., that has to be more than adds causing that, but banning adds is a good start. In my area, it would help if a prescribing doctor is not allowed to determine cause of death, again, accountability seems to be missing more than laws. If all the laws we have were enforced, half the problem would be solved. Laws without accountability and consequences are useless. Cops stole my guns, kitchen knives and even spatulas for BBQ, a friend cop told me that was common and my things are most likely in the cops collection now, especially my legal and registered guns. The authorities work the system the same as addicts so. That is the good thing about having a dad who drinks at the cop bar. You find the real story and don't get in trouble for driving drunk. Again, the leaks in accountability seem to be the real problem. I would like to hear how we could enforce laws.

what could they do??  how about stop advertising on every tv channel and newspaper and magazine??  just like the tobacco companies had to do.  that would be a start.  almost every commercial is about a pill to fix all your problems.  then people go to their doctor and ask for it.  they know what they are doing and they should not be able to do that.  jmo
