6 days to get off 40mg

I have 6 days to come off of 40 mgs of methadone and was wondering the best way to do it to experience the least amount of discomfort. I'm basically trying to do damage control because I don't have a choice and without going into too many details I'm not going to be offered much for discomfort besides a Klonopin taper and some Bentyl etc. I might be able to sneak a few vicodins to ease the process but thats about it. Any ideas?

sorry to here about the quick taper and maybe not by choice but if you can see a doctor or have insurance see if you can get some clondine to lower your blood pressure and keep body temp in control it helps quite a bit. probably from your dose now till your out wont do much but if you can stick it out and bare down like no other the next week or two may be rough. everyone here has some info to help and are really caring as per we all suffered through it or still are. to me the lack of sleep and rls at night seemed to be the worst for me but we are all different. just remember there is a light at the end of the tunnel now matter how long the tunnel seems it only gets better, take it from me a month and a half cleen from a rather big oxy habit and i am so much happier and have a new zest for life. my prayers are with you and no matter what keep as busy as you can even though your body and mind say otherwise, for me idol hands were tools of the devil.God bless!

This time around just 4 mos. I stayed @40 mgs because I knew that there was a possibility that this day would come. I just wish I had prepared for it a little better.

I was on Methadone for 3 years, up and down on doses, as high as 200 mgs, when I finally decided to get off I was on about 30 mgs. The first 2 weeks is rough. The diarrhea came later for me, cause my system was so backed up. Nausea, you know everything that will happen, It is very hard, it is not easy and there is no magic pill or quick fix, I wish there was!  Stay hydrated, take tons of vitamins, say a prayer! You can do this, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.., HOw long have you been on it?

How much were you on for how long? Was the worst over after 2 weeks? It's always the nausea and vomiting that's the worst for me. Once I start I can't stop, even when there's nothing left in my stomach. Not to be gross, but once there's nothing left I dry heave stomach bile. It's awful and sometimes it feels like I can't breathe cuz I'm stuck in that gag reflex. The one thing I'm thankful for is that I never seem to get the diarrhea that seems to go hand in hand w/everyone's detox. The one thing I always try to do no matter how upset my stomach is, is to stay hydrated. If I don't, I get so weak that I can barely stand let alone walk. My body temp goes through the roof and my normally low blood pressure rises to an unhealthy level, I'm sure. Congrats on your accomplishment. That is no small feat and I admire your strength.

It will be VERY uncomfortable! However, it can be done- I literally locked myself in my room for 2 weeks, for me, back pain was the worst and the not sleeping. Make sure you have a heating pad, stay in the hot bath for as long as you can. Also, benzo's do help to take the edge off- but not much,  I was also on the liquid form, I just got soo sick of being a slave to it. Next month I will have 3 years off that stuff, and it was the best thing I ever did- I have a life now!

I've been on it for about 4 mos now. Two days ago I dropped myself to 35 mgs and today I took 32. I was thinking of going to 30 tomorrow and then jump down to 25 the next day. After that I'd have 3 days left so I was thinking maybe 22, 20, 15? I don't know, I'm pretty nervous but I'm trying to be smart about it. The most difficult thing is I'm dealing w/the liquid so I'm basically guestimating the whole way. I've been saving the leftover done from the original 40 these last days, so I figure when I'm done on Tuesday I'll have approx. 101 mgs leftover if all goes according to plan. So if I can, I'm going to try and take an additional 12 days after the last 15 mgs Tuesday by dropping myself @ a rate of 1mg/day. I'm still debating this last part. How uncomfortable would it be to stop @ 15mg? Would it make much difference dropping 1mg/day after that? Any other suggestions? Thanks so much for all your input btw. It helps to have someone else talk you through this, as scary as it is.

Plenty hot baths for sure and something to punch, if u feel like jumping out your skin. Can u take natural sups with u at all?Valerian root for sleep etc..Some of those 'detox' formulas and **** aren't half bad,  they DO flush toxins from your body and really ,the quicker the better.Get some protein shake mixes , u probably won't wanna eat much. Immodium is essential.Hot water bottles or heat pads can help.Ginger is great for nausea... Sorry if this is not much help at all...
I am on 32.5 and desperately want off.Scared to death tho... Please let us know how u go :)
