3+ years Vicodin...

Im a single mom, who happened to get blindsided with vicodin addiction. I have no insurance and despirately need to kick this crappy habbit. Now, I do between 30-40 325/5s, daily. Im down to ten in my kiddy. Im refusing to buy anymore. What can i do to control these detox cravings and pain? How can I make it thru the day? I also have 10 clomazapin, i hear this helps... can you buy SUBOXONE online? or do you need a script? Do you recommend weening off, or stopping cold turkey? Treatment is not an option. I know if I can kick the physical aspect, I have resources to help me with the mental trouble.

Please help. I need to start this hopefully by tomorrow...

If there is someone who could babysit for your child for a few days while you go through this that would be a big help.

No quick taper will make any difference in how you feel.I would just cold turkey it.After all, quick relief is what we want and cold turkey is the quickest way to get there,Keep posting and alot of people will be here to help you.

littlebit gave you some good information regarding what will help you through your withdrawals.

I read through your post again and saw that you were taking 5 mg pills instead of 10, so its still a high dose, but not as high as I thought.  since you only have 10 pills left, you could try a taper, but I'm not sure it will help much.  Its up to you.  I would cold turkey now and just get it over with.  Do you have someone to watch your kids for you while you withdrawal?
It will be intense but it is doable.  I would comment on the subs but I don't know enough about them.

Keep posting and you will find alot of people here more than willling to help, with alot of knowledge about drugs and detox.

Well wishes to you,

Sandy :)

You should be proud of yourself for having the motivation and desire to get clean.

I came to these boards 10 days ago looking to change my life too -- I was tired of who I had become abusing pills (I wasn't using a high a dose as you, but was using a much more potent opiate... and when I was much younger, I used an even higher dose than what you are now.)

Both times, getting clean was worth it... I can tell you that the first 4 days were rough but no worse than a really bad flu... nothing you can't handle. After that, I'm slowly returning to my old self.

The Thomas Recipe has been key to me; forcing myself to exercise once the flu symptoms passed was key (even during those, I walked as much as I could take...)

10 days later, it already seems like a distant life/personality from who I was during my first post here.

I'm sharing this because staying involved in this community, contributing, reading, educating myself on this, has made it more endurable.

There's no harm in going to a doctor for help; but I wouldn't recommend Sub -- just get it done with. If nothing else, you might be put on a real taper schedule monitored by the doctor.

1st of all so happy u decided2quit.Ur taking30-40 5mg a day.I was taking15 10mg a day.we r on the same about basically. No this isnt a  couple a day but I did it c/t.Been clean5months now.1st NO SUBOXIN.Thats a much harder med2get off of.I dont think any1taking lortabs/perks need methadone/suboxine treatment(because u will have a much longer and worse w/d from those meds I think those should b last resort treatments). It will take4days2get past the worst of physical w/d from what ur on.The meds u have(benzo will help through w/d).I would flush the pills u have left because a taper w/that amount u will b n full on w/d anyway so u will have w/d during a torture taper then more w/d.Get all the supplies for the Thomas recipe, amino acid protocal(especially the immodium not generic).I used excedrin too for headaches. U can do this good luck.

Some questions I can answer and some not.  I am glad you are doing this.  Whichever way you decide..go down to the lower right of this page and look at the Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid protocol.  The list has really helped a lot manage the withdrawals.  Others will chime about what worked for them.
I swear by the Imodium to help with the opiate trots (you will have them) and
seems to help with some of the w/d symptoms as well.  I am pretty sure you go not want to do the suboxone..you will be subbing one problem for another.
The fear of detox is worse than the actual detox.  I went cold turkey (never could taper) and used many of the Thomas Recipe ingredients to do so.  I am clean 34 days and have to say that my brain is really working now and I hope it gets clearer as the weeks go by.  This was shared with me when I first started and wanted to know how the drugs were affecting my brain and enjoyment of life:

You have to remember how opiates work, and why you feel depressed etc. when you quit taking them and after you are over the withdrawals.

Opiates bound to the opioid receptors in your brain and body. They release their artificial endorphins to them, and block the bodies natural endorphins. After a while the neurons that produce the body's natural endorphins disappear. There is no need for them so they just don't rejuvenate like they would normally.

When you stop taking the opiates,  they leave your opioid receptors bare, and they are calling out for your body's natural endorphins, but there isn't any there at first. You body has to repopulate the neurons that make them, and this takes time.

Endorphins like dopamine  control your moods, anxiety, sadness, anger, happiness, pain etc.

You will slowly get your "old self" back as these neurons repopulate and begin increasing their endorphins production. After being off the opiates for a month, they should be about 45-50% of normal, and be back to normal within a year.
So hang in there, you will feel better and better as the months roll by, and they roll by pretty darn quick when we get to our age, don't they!

Try keep busy and keep your mind focused on positive things instead of dwelling on the depression, anxiety, etc. that are only temporary and will disappear as your endorphins return to normal.

Hi & Welcome to MH.  It's great that you want to kick this awful habit - you're definitely not alone as you will find out, once you start reading the other threads on this forum.

30-40 a day - that's quite a large amount - we are not allowed to offer tapering schedules here, but if you only have 10 left, that's not much to taper with.   You can try, or just cold turkey, I'm just concerned that, either way you're on a high dose, and your withdrawals are going to be pretty intense.

The clonazepam is a benzodiazapine which may offer a little relief, but it in part depends on the dose you have.

Have you detoxed from an amount this high before? And if you dont mind my asking - how old are you and do you have any underlying health conditions? I'm only asking because I'm concerned about your withdrawal and this information will help.

Post back so we can continue to help you.  Also, Im fairly certain that the suboxone needs to be prescribed;  there are others here who are very familiar with subs and if you can get a prescription from a clinic possibly, since you have no insurance.
