I would say narcotic withdrawal symptoms in the infant is a complication...
Hello there. I first want to say don't worry. Stress is not good for the baby. I took hydros when I was pregnant with my now 6 year old son. And they were given to me by my OB. My son was perfect at birth. But I will say you have to be completely honest with your self and the people in this forum. I want to understand your situation better and be able to help. I myself became addicted to pain killers and am now detoxing to get off them after three years of heavy use. So first are you still taking them at all? Have you ever been addicted to them? And honestly how much were you taking a day? Your OB sounds like a real JERK. Sorry you had to deal with that. From what I understand there are NO proven pregnancy complications from taking percs while being pregnant and here is just a tad of information that I found.
Although Percocet has not been studied in pregnant humans or animals, the individual components of the drug (oxycodone and acetaminophen) have been studied. Usually, acetaminophen is considered fairly safe for use during pregnancy (see Tylenol and Pregnancy).
When given to pregnant animals, oxycodone did not seem to increase the risk of birth defects or other problems. Limited human research also suggests that oxycodone does not seem to cause birth defects in humans. However, oxycodone is a narcotic, and using this drug during the end of a pregnancy may cause narcotic withdrawal symptoms in the infant after delivery. Such symptoms may include:
Irritability and excessive crying
Shakiness (tremors)
Hyperactive reflexes
Fast breathing
Increased stools
Sneezing
Yawning
Vomiting
Fever.
However, pregnancy Category C medicines, including Percocet, may be given to a pregnant woman if her healthcare provider believes that the benefits to the woman outweigh any possible risks to the unborn child.
Please feel free to message me back. I would love to stay in contact with you.
Again don't worry or stress. You will be fine and so will baby.
Hi there- I wouldn't worry too much about the authorities right now but I have a couple of questions: Have you abused pills in the past? Is this the only pain med you've taken during your pregnancy?
Many pregnant women take a pain med here and there but generally not everyday. That's what probably upset the doctor. Also, not many people have a bottle of 60-90 Percocet hanging around...He must have seen that as a red flag, who knows...
The most important thing in this situation is total honesty; it will go a long way. There ARE lab tests that can determine what meds have been taken and when they were taken; going back 5-7 months.
Good luck with your new doctor and let us know how you're doing-
I wanted to come back to say that before I found out I was pregnant I had a cold, I was taking codeine cough medicine as well as decongestants, tylenol, etc. When I found I was pregnant I stopped it all, told the OBGYN, was scared to death. He told me not to worry about it.
Hi there, I am so sorry you are going through this pain while pregnant. You are 33 weeks, I would think, by the time you have the baby all will be well. I have not had a baby in a very long time but don't most pregnancies go 41?
Please don't beat yourself up. When my sister was pregnant she was in so much pain fro migraines and vomiting that her doctor put her in the hospital and gave her morphine.
It does happen. I can't believe the first doctor was so rude to you. You were reaching out for help and he just dumped you, what a jerk.
If you had an old prescription of percocet it is obvious you are not addicted.
Hang in there
Im in Australia where they wont take the child as long as your honest, have regular check ups and have a plan in place to stop. Im unaware of Ohio's rules though im sorry. I should imagine they would only take the child if its their last option. Im sure this would be the last thing they would want to do. But your being honest with them. Hopefully this goes in your favour but im not sure how strict they are. They may make a decision on weather you can afford to support bubby, you have a stable home and you have support and what your doing to help yourself. Im sorry i cant be more help but i wish you and your baby well : )
Your OB knows what you have been taking so that is good. CPS usually steps in when noone knows about it. Just make sure to keep being honest with your OB. Most states are checking for drug use now. I am sorry your other doctor treated you the way he did. Hopefully your new one will be more understanding and helpful. Never take anything that isnt okay'd by them. When is baby due?
I'm in ohio. Would love more responses
I wouldn't worry too much ....1 it's not good off you to stress..... 2 you should do everything you can to try and flush yourself clean. Most cases if you have the baby and neither of you still hold traces .... Nothing will happen..... :) it all depends on where you live and your states policies on this really. But I wish you the best of luck and praying you and your baby are healthy and happy together :):)
