hoping for help

I have been on pain meds for just under 5 years for herniated discs.... long story short... have gotten off multiple meds over the last couple months and finally kicked my last norco 5 days ago, but now have to have another surgery in 2 days... to just go back on this stuff... i am repeating my motto... "the less you can do for the shortest you can do..." and i was thinking of asking my husband to "control" my pain meds.... but was looking for advice....

Another thing is - ask your doc about non-opioid (sp?) pain meds. I have a friend in the medical profession who, after learning of my addiction, told me about a drug that helps with pain but is not opioid based (and of course I can't remember the name). Since everyone is different, this may not work for you, but it may be something to look in to.  Good luck.

I think it's a good idea to have your husband hold them for you and take as directed only, which I know is hard. Unfortunately with surgery comes pain, so you may have to take pills for a few days but just remember you're in control, so hang in there have hubby give them to you. You may also ask your doctor how long he/she thinks you'll need to be on heavy duty pills and see if you can then switch to Tylenol or an anti inflammatory. I was off meds for over a year then had foot surgery and 6 months later I was still taking pain meds so I was right back to being
addicted, it happens so be very careful.. Best of luck to you!
