pregnant and getting clean

Hi everyone... okay so I just recently found out that I'm pregnant and I'm getting clean on my own because drugs aren't worth it, and I don't want to harm my child in anyway!! I'm 5days clean so far and it's been easy because I know the harm it could cause my child.. but addiction is hard for anyone! I have thoughts about getting high but I don't want to! So does anyone have any suggestions on how to get threw this without harming my unborn child?? Thanks for any help or advise!

Thank you both berry much for your advise!! I just didn't want the Dr to know about the drug use since I'm clean right now because I don't want them to hold it against me later on at birth..

I've actually been looking into this housing for addicted pregnant moms but I figured 5days and nothin, I probably don't need that! But I'm actually going to a group on the 15th and I'm gonna see what they might suggest also.. but yes VI, I'm very excited! I have a 5yr old but I kept everything secret.

At 5 days and no symptoms, then 12 step meetings, counseling, church, or anything that inspires you to grow and never go back to drugs again. I wish I quit before kids, but my kids watched me detox, they know what drugs do. Anyway, dealing with the mental part and why we crave helps us see triggers and out blocks up to keep us out of that stinkin thinkin. Recovery is actually fun once you surrender to it. What one of aftercare sounds like it would inspire you to be the best you there is?

Hi..I think after five days and they say things are OK then OK..
For YOU & the Baby I would try going to some Support groups. They have so many different ones these days..Heck, I bet they even have one for Moms who used or using why PG. Google and see what meetings you come up with..SUPPORT is a must for most who are a Addict. Since we do not know your Story, you might not have gone that far..Either way I would get some support for those Craving days & the rest of your life..I wish you the best and may you have such a Healthy New Baby..How Exciting!!! Yahoooooo!

Yes I agree completely! But I know a lot of ppl that was on methadone while pregnant and their baby got addicted and the withdrawal from it is worse than h... Not only that my family has no clue that I'm was ever on anything at all and I don't want them to know.. I'm on day 5 and have not had any withdrawal symptoms yet an went to the hospital yesterday and they said the baby is fine! But I figured since I have not had any symptoms yet that I might not!?!? My situation is a rough one. :/ I just don't want to be on methadone, or anything for that matter!!

Detoxing in the first trimester is risky business. I suggest you talk openly with a doctor. Depending on what and how much you use, they may suggest methadone for the duration, maybe it's safe for the baby for you to detox, but I wouldn't do this alone. A steady supply of opiates to an unborn is proven to do no permenant damage, detox has proven high probability of problems. Make the child the priority, be cautious and open minded, but go to a doctor.
