Addiction

I have been doing cocaine, bennies, smoking weed and ciggarettes since the beginning of my pregnancy. What can I do to stop? What is happening to my baby?

IMdone...thanks for the clarirfication on "bennies".  See how much I know?  LOL.

I'm posting a link to another thread the OP has up in the depression forum.  I know I don't always check a poster's history...but I think it is SO relevant here.  People giving advice need to see the whole picture, IMO.

And, in the OCD forum:

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Obsessive-Compulsive-Disorder-OCD-/Personality-Disorder/show/1786920

In each forum, we're only getting a partial picture of the extent of the issue.  Op is only listing one or two meds per forum.

She posted in the anxiety forum as well, but again about the Cipralex.  I think she may be having trouble navigating the site...so I wanted to make sure everyone has all the info.

I'm hoping and praying my hunch is not right.  I'm fearful that the OP is not telling her OB the extent of the psych meds she's on, for fear they will be discontonued...and the substance abuse because she's just fearful.

sweetluvchild...if you ARE scared, that's okay...that's normal!  But, imagine how much scarier it would be if you find out that there is something wrong with your baby due to the meds and/or illicit drug use?  That won't be "fixable".  YOUR health is at risk here too, bigtime!

As far as the psych meds...the doctors will work together to find the safest options for you AND baby, while trying to keep any symptoms manageable.  There's ALWAYS options.  What ISN'T an option is staying quiet.

This is weighing on my mind...I hope you reply up here again...please just be honest with the great folks here.  No one is here to judge you...everyone just wants to help.

I'm pretty sure bennies are speed.  Doesn't really matter though - this is not good for your baby and you need to connect with your OB asap.

Good luck to you.

Bennies is probably slang for "benzodiazepines", like Xanax or Ativan???

sweetluvchild....I cannot stress to you enough the urgency of you needing to tell your OB what you have been doing, and you need to be completely honest with him, in order to save both your life and the life of your child.

Cocaine can cause heart attacks and strokes, among other things...in both you and the baby.  If you are abusing benzos, and try to just stop, you could suffer seizures that could be life threatening, again, for both of you.

I'm not trying to scare you, but this is indeed a very serious matter. The longer you wait to tell your doctor, the greater the chance the baby could suffer irrepairable damage.  You are responsible for that child...do the right thing...get help TODAY.

Best of luck.

This may sound like a stupid question, but what are bennies?

Your baby feels the effects of everything you do.   You need to talk to your doctor immediately.

Take care of your baby, your baby is growing inside you and you both are sharing the same blood! Your child is depending on you to give it life. Most of the drugs you are doing are not that hard to stop. If you are taking opiates thats a different matter. Go to your doctor now. Your baby is getting the effects of the cocaine as we speak. Its such a small baby with a heart the size of a quarter.

You need to talk to a doctor and, in the mean time, slow down a little on the drugs. If you go to your doctor and tell them you are an addict and need help they will help you. If you do what they say, they will not take the child and will help you to save it. You need to do this now. Don't be affraid of what will happen to you, think only of the child. Good luck.
