It feels good to feel good!  Yes, it sure does,  but it will bite you later on,  for sure it will if you continue this way.  I don't want to hurt your feelings,  it is just how it rolls with social useing.  Hey, I used for chronic pain,  yes, Dr. legitamate use!!  It does just happen.   Just be careful,  social use can so quickly and unexpectedly become a problem.  You will regret it,  so sad but true.    I wish you well and for a happy life. Be careful.

norelapse put it about as well as anybody ever has.......................

"Well, I tried it my first Friday. Fun times! Then I thought, Saturday is also the weekend, why not Saturday? Ok, done! Hmmm, there's some good TV shows on Sunday nights, maybe I'll just pop one while watching, but I will NOT do it during the week.

Oh no, Monday *****. I'll just take one to get through the Monday, I'll work better on the pill. See how short that window of non-use gets? Pretty soon you'll only have Tuesday-Thursday as your only days of non-use....and then before you know it, you're in a full blown addiction"

That's exactly how I started 4 years ago. Only thing decent about my addiction is that it has never gotton above 15 mg lorcet per day. Ive always thought my exercise through the years kept me from becoming a harder addict! I also use during the afternoon, so at least my days are 'normal". By the way can anyone answer this: Is it harder to detox from a little over a long time or alot over a shorter time, ie 40-50 mg for 4 months or 10-15 mg over 4 years?

Thanks

He there...It will become a problem...I have been off the oxycodone for a few weeks now. I now take Norco and xanax. If not I would never be able to sleep. I have gone without them for a few days. It is very hard for me. I get shaky, irritable and pain.   My Dr. gives me more when I run out...but I do try to pace myself. He would rather me call him than to go crazy. If you are feeling pain and axiety I would call your Dr. They do not want you to go through this. (at least mine does not) I hate the withdrawel process. Especially the insomnea. You are not doing to much now, but in time you will. Talk to your DR. if he/she won't help you. Get another one that will. I have found that melatonin had help...to relax me. But nothing compared to the Norco or the Xanax...Good luck to you. I do not think you are an addict yet. But be careful. it is very easy to fall into that trap.

Ahh....this question.

I had gotten clean off of oxycontin and was in the clear. No cravings, I was sleeping well, no depression, I was happy again. I actually made it to the other side and life was normal again.

Then I thought, why not just do it every Friday? I should reward myself for the week of hard work, I mean, is it really different from going to happy hour on a Friday? I can control it, I beat it! I hate myself for thinking that way...

My advice to you, don't even start with one a week. Go do something else. Go for a run. Call a friend on a phone. Watch a movie. Have sex. Eat cake.

Here is the coldest, hardest, realest truth I've found: Look, all of us recovering addicts will ALWAYS miss that high. The truth is that there will NEVER, EVER be anything in the world that will make us feel as good as we felt when we were on Oxycontin or any other drug. That's just the truth. There's no amount of sex, eating, Disneyland, movies etc. that will ever replicate that high. Even people who have never used a single drug in their life aren't as "happy" at their highest point than addicts feel when they're high. It's a sad, cold truth. But it's one we have to accept, and once we do...then we can adjust back to the normal life.

I know your train of thought, I was just there. You're clean, you're bored most of the week, nothing you can do will ever give you the same Pain Pill High. But you just have to accept that and move on to real life.

Sorry if that's harsh, but I wish I had someone like me tell me this when I was thinking "maybe I'll just try one a week."

Thats a pretty picky definition.......some will say that you are not. I would have to say that any steady non-medical use would be addiction. Now, you wont have physical withdrawals - Yet.  But what you are asking is probably how 50% of the people on this forum started using.

Perhaps not an addict yet, but its waiting for you down the road.  If you dont need the opiate, its not prescribed to you for a legitimate reason, and you take it-- you are abusing drugs.  Abuse of drugs leads to addiction.  Every friday leads to every day.  Every day leads to every hour which ultimately leads to death if you don't quit.

My advice - if you can wait a week in between then your not an addict YET or at least you are not physically dependent yet.  You should quit while you are ahead.  This road only leads to sickness, heartbreak, failure and death.  Not to mention opiate withdrawal which is a nightmare in itself.
